After a lot of research, I brought home this little guy, and instantly, the name Syrax came to mind! For fans of 'House of the Dragon,' you'll know Syrax is Rhaenyra Targaryen's golden dragon – powerful, loyal, and majestic. While my Syrax might not breathe fire, he certainly has a regal presence and a curious, sometimes sassy, personality that makes him feel like my very own miniature dragon. Bringing home any new pet is an adventure, and a bearded dragon is no different. One of the first things I learned is how important their habitat setup is. They need a spacious enclosure, proper lighting (including UVB and a basking spot), and a temperature gradient to thrive. It was a fun project setting up Syrax's terrarium, making sure it had plenty of places for him to climb, bask, and explore. I even added some natural-looking decor to give it a more 'dragon's lair' feel! Feeding Syrax has been an interesting journey. As a juvenile, he eats a lot of insects – crickets, dubia roaches, and mealworms are his favorites – dusted with calcium and vitamins. It's amazing to watch him hunt! He also enjoys a variety of greens and vegetables, which will become a bigger part of his diet as he gets older. It’s important to offer fresh, clean water daily, though they often get a lot of hydration from their food. One of the most rewarding parts of having Syrax is observing his unique behaviors. Bearded dragons are surprisingly expressive! You can tell when they're happy, curious, or sometimes a bit grumpy. Syrax loves to bask under his heat lamp, and he'll often 'arm wave' at me, which is their way of showing submission or acknowledging another creature. Handling him gently and regularly has helped us bond, and he's becoming quite comfortable exploring outside his tank under close supervision. For anyone considering a bearded dragon as a pet, I can honestly say they are fascinating companions. They require commitment to their specific care needs, but the joy they bring is immense. Syrax has truly become a beloved member of our family, and I'm excited to watch him grow and continue to discover his unique 'dragon' personality. It's been an incredible experience learning about these amazing reptiles, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of our journey with him!
