What I carried in my backpack to hike Pikes Peak
I wish I had packed more food, but my pack still felt like a million pounds by the summit.
1. Energy bars.
Very important to maintain energy levels while ascending.
2. Apples
Great for energy as well and not heavy on the stomach.
3. First aid kit(just incase) and wipes incase of a needed bathroom break(I surprisingly didn't the entire climb!)
4. Tripod
For those great photo opportunities.
5. Extra power bank
I wanted to make sure my phone was charged at all times.
6. 3 liters of water
I ended up only drinking about a liter and a half. This was the heaviest item in my pack.
7. Liquid IV
Instead of mixing it with my water I dry scooped it and washed it down with the water. Replenishing electrolytes is essential during a strenuous hike
8. Jerky
Protein to keep me full and help keep my muscles strong.
Overall I do wish I had packed more carbs for energy because I was severely lacking energy by the time I reached summit. But those world famous Pikes Peak donuts helped alleviate that problem. 😉/Colorado
