I just finished my first audiobook!! 🎧📚 Black Girls Must Die Exhausted!
Why did it feel a little too personal? 😭
The pressure. The expectations. The constant “holding it together.” Even our names being similar didn’t help lol.
I enjoyed it, but now I’m trying to decide…
When you read a series, do you finish it back to back or switch books in between?
Tell me how you read because I’m still figuring out my rhythm.

Listening to my first audiobook, Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen, opened up a unique experience for me. The audiobook format gave a fresh perspective as the narrator’s voice added emotional depth, making the story of pressure, expectations, and resilience feel more intimate and impactful. I found myself reflecting on the weight many Black women carry daily — the constant “holding it together” despite exhaustion. When it comes to series or switching books, I’ve noticed that there’s a balance that each reader must find. Personally, I felt that finishing a series back-to-back helps maintain the emotional connection and narrative flow, especially with stories that deeply resonate with personal or cultural themes. However, switching books in between can refresh your mindset and prevent burnout, especially if the series is heavy or emotionally intense. Experimenting with audiobook listening while commuting or doing chores turned out to be a great way for me to savor storytelling without adding screen time. For others exploring audiobooks, I recommend trying different narrators or genres to discover what best fits your rhythm. Also, engaging with communities like #blackgirlsread or #audiobooklover can enrich the experience by connecting with others who share similar reading journeys. Overall, my first audiobook journey was not just about finishing a book but embracing a new way of absorbing stories that speak to identity, perseverance, and self-care. Whether you prefer completing a series in one go or mixing books, the key is to make your reading journey enjoyable and fulfilling on your terms.

Hi …I’m a mood reader so I normally keep 3 books in rotation …one physical, one ebook and audio and they all can have the same or different genres. Since I started back reading almost 2 years now it’s only 2 series I kept going with other books in between
