NYC ✨Hidden Korean Izakaya Underground! 🫶

Stumbled upon this hidden gem in K-Town after spotting a line leading to a mysterious underground entrance—finally checked it out, and it’s a vibe! Perfect for cozy winter dinners or casual nights with friends.

🔥 Must-tries:

🍲 Army Stew (Budae Jjigae): Surprisingly flavorful and comforting. Every bite was a hit, and we finished the whole pot.

🐙 Spicy Octopus: Chewy, spicy, and so satisfying.

🍗 Fried Chicken: Go for the original with sauce—it’s crispy and delicious.

🧊 Shaved Ice Soju Cocktails: Even for non-drinkers, this was a win! Sweet, tangy, and refreshing—perfect for sharing.

... Read moreWhen I first heard 'Korean Izakaya,' I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but stumbling upon BANGIA in NYC's K-Town completely redefined my dining expectations! For those unfamiliar, think of a Korean Izakaya as a vibrant, informal gastropub—a Korean take on the Japanese concept. It’s a place where friends gather to enjoy delicious, often shareable, small plates alongside drinks in a lively, relaxed atmosphere. It's less about a formal meal and more about the social experience, and BANGIA absolutely nails this unique cultural blend. Stepping into BANGIA through its intriguing underground entrance felt like discovering a secret world hidden beneath the bustling city streets. The atmosphere is truly something special—it's cozy, dimly lit with industrial accents, cool white brick walls, and subtle neon lighting, exactly as the pictures convey. There's a vibrant energy but it’s never overwhelmingly loud, making it perfect for anything from a casual catch-up with friends to a more intimate, yet lively, dinner date. It truly feels like a delightful escape from the usual NYC dining scene. Beyond the incredibly comforting Army Stew (Budae Jjigae) and the deliciously chewy Spicy Octopus I initially raved about, their menu is a treasure trove of authentic Korean flavors designed for sharing. On my visit, I couldn't resist trying more dishes that caught my eye, and I’m so glad I did! The Truffle Oil Chapaguri was a surprising standout – those rich, savory noodles, elevated with tender pork belly and a perfectly fried egg, were just divine, offering a gourmet twist on a beloved Korean instant noodle dish. And for those who crave a fiery kick, the Spicy Chicken Feet with Cheese were surprisingly addictive; the generous layer of melted cheese brilliantly balances the intense heat, creating a creamy, fiery sensation that kept me coming back for more. I also spotted the Spicy Whole Squid being served at a neighboring table, looking incredibly fresh and vibrant – definitely an adventurous and flavorful option if you’re up for it. And for something crispy and utterly satisfying, their Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon) is a must-order – perfectly golden, crispy on the edges, and packed with a delightful mix of seafood and scallions. And let's not forget those famous Shaved Ice Soju Cocktails! Even if you're not a big drinker, they are incredibly refreshing, sweet, and tangy, making them super fun to share and enjoy. The blackberry one I tried was the perfect coolant for all the spicy dishes. My ultimate advice for visiting BANGIA? Go with a group, embrace the sharing culture by ordering a variety of dishes, and definitely don't be afraid to venture beyond your usual Korean food favorites. It’s an authentic taste of sophisticated Korean nightlife and comfort food right here in New York, and every dish, from the hearty Army Stew to the adventurous Spicy Chicken Feet, is crafted to perfection. Trust me, you'll want to explore every corner of their extensive and exciting menu!
