Harbs Bakery’s Stunning Cakes in SOHO NYC🍰✨

If you’re looking for a chic spot to indulge in some of the best cakes in New York, Harbs Bakery in SoHo is a MUST-TRY. I’ve heard whispers that their cakes are even better than Lady M, and after finally visiting, I can say it’s totally worth the hype!

I visited their SOHO location, which is spacious and well-designed with a clean and refreshing ambiance. I arrived on a Sunday afternoon around 5 PM, and a few of their cakes were already sold out (which speaks to how popular this place is!).

Here are the two cakes I tried:

1. Fresh Fruits Mille Crepes - $16 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This cake is an absolute beauty, with its delicate layers of soft, thin crepes and a rich cream filling. The fresh fruits inside are a burst of flavor, and the balance of sweetness is perfect—it’s not overwhelmingly sweet, making it feel very light and refreshing.

2. Sakura Cake - $15 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A stunning pink cake that’s perfect for cherry blossom season! The texture is incredibly soft and light, with a subtle almond flavor that pairs beautifully with the soft sweetness of the cake. The jelly layer on top adds a unique touch and prevents it from being too one-dimensional.

Service 🌟🌟🌟

While the cakes are a 10/10, I felt the service was a bit lacking. There was only one staff member taking orders and managing the register, which meant a longer wait and a slightly impersonal experience. Also, they require every person dining in to order something, which felt a little unnecessary and off-putting.

Despite the service hiccups, the cakes are undeniably worth the visit. Harbs is a perfect spot for an afternoon tea or a sweet treat after exploring SoHo. Highly recommend if you want something light, fresh, and beautifully presented!

... Read moreBeyond the two amazing cakes I shared from my first visit, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what makes Harbs SoHo a truly unique and stunning cake destination in NYC, especially for those of you searching for the perfect mille crepe experience or just a delightful dessert spot. My journey into Harbs didn't stop with just the Fresh Fruits Mille Crepes and the Sakura Cake; I've since explored more, and I have some insider tips to share. First off, let's talk about the range of cakes. While the Fresh Fruits Mille Crepes is often the star, with its incredibly delicate layers of crepes and generous portions of fresh strawberries, kiwi, and bananas, it’s only scratching the surface. Many of you are searching for Harbs strawberry cake or Harbs strawberry mille crepe, and let me tell you, it's a classic for a reason! This cake takes the same meticulous layering and fills it with sweet, ripe strawberries and their signature light cream. It’s less complex than the mixed fruit one but equally, if not more, satisfying for strawberry lovers. It’s a testament to how simple, high-quality ingredients can create something extraordinary. I also have to mention the Marron cake, which I spotted in the display case (priced at $15.00 a slice) during a previous visit. While I didn't get to try it that day (it sold out so fast!), the rich, nutty aroma and elegant appearance were captivating. It’s a seasonal favorite for many, often featuring candied chestnuts, offering a different, equally sophisticated flavor profile compared to their fruit-centric options. This diversity is what truly elevates Harbs beyond just a crepe cake spot; they offer a cake for every preference. For those of you looking for Harbs SoHo reviews and aiming to visit, a quick tip: plan your timing. As mentioned, popular cakes like the Fresh Fruits Mille Crepes and the Strawberry Mille Crepe can sell out. Going on a weekday morning or early afternoon might give you a better chance to snag your desired slice and experience a slightly calmer ambiance. The SOHO NYC stunning cake vibe is always there, but fewer crowds make for a more relaxing experience. Regarding the service, which I touched upon, I've come to accept it as part of the Harbs experience. It’s efficient, but sometimes lacks the warmth you might find elsewhere. However, knowing that everyone dining in is expected to order something helps manage expectations. I always make sure I'm going with friends who are as eager to try a slice (or two!) as I am. And for the burning question: Is Harbs better than Lady M? For me, it depends on what I'm craving. Lady M is undeniably luxurious, but Harbs' cakes, especially their fruit ones, feel lighter and less sweet. The emphasis on vibrant, fresh fruit flavors, like those strawberries, kiwi, and bananas in their signature mille crepe, truly sets them apart. Even the Sakura Cake, with its delicate pink cake and unique jelly top layer and subtle red beans at the base, showcases this Japanese precision in balancing sweetness and texture. It really comes down to personal preference, but Harbs definitely holds its own, offering a slightly more understated elegance and a celebration of natural flavors. So, if you're exploring NYC desserts and find yourself in SoHo, Harbs is a destination that promises not just a cake, but an experience. Whether you're after a classic mille crepe, a seasonal delight, or just a beautiful slice of fresh fruit cake, you won't be disappointed.
