On December 24th, 2025, at Tanguisson Beach in Guam, we found a moment that changed our lives forever. A small female mixed boonie dog was running for her life, being chased and attacked by at least nine larger dogs. She fled up the roadway and into the jungle, terrified and alone. We couldn’t leave her behind. That day, she became our unexpected Christmas gift. Since then, she’s been part of our family, learning slowly to trust, love, and feel safe. She still lives in survival mode, but every day she accepts more hugs, more smooches, and more of the love she always deserved.
Rescuing a stray boonie dog on Guam can be a deeply rewarding yet challenging experience. Over the course of four months, I witnessed an incredible transformation. She gradually adapted to living indoors, grew stronger, and started to show playful, affectionate behaviors. This experience taught me the importance of community awareness about stray animal conditions and the benefits of rescuing beach dogs who might otherwise succumb to malnutrition or injury. It’s important too to consider local resources such as vet clinics offering vaccinations and spay/neuter options to help control stray populations humanely. Giving a stray dog a second chance not only changes their life but deeply enriches yours.
