Making Love Letter Pastries is a wonderful way to combine simplicity with a heartfelt touch, especially for occasions like Valentine's Day. One great tip I found helpful is to experiment with different types of jam fillings — from classic strawberry and raspberry to unexpected flavors like apricot or even a tangy lemon curd. Each jam adds its own unique sweetness and texture, making the pastries versatile for various tastes. Another handy technique is to lightly chill the assembled pastries before baking. This step helps the dough hold its shape better during baking and prevents the jam from leaking out. Also, brushing the pastries with an egg wash not only gives them a beautiful golden color but also creates a slight shine that makes them look professionally made. If you don’t have a heart-shaped cookie cutter, a simple scissors cut in the dough or a small knife can create charming cut-out details to personalize your pastries. Sprinkling icing sugar right after baking adds a delicate sweetness and an elegant finish. I’ve also found that these pastries reheat well in a warm oven for a few minutes if you want to enjoy them fresh-baked anytime. They pair wonderfully with a cup of tea or coffee, making them a perfect treat for cozy mornings or afternoon breaks. This easy recipe strikes a lovely balance between homemade charm and convenience, especially since using store-bought pie crust saves time without sacrificing taste or presentation.
