2. Add egg and pulse until dough forms. Shape into a ball, roll out between baking paper to 4mm thick, and chill for at least an hour.

Creating strawberry rose tarts at home is a delightful baking experience that combines both artistry and delicious flavors. The key to achieving that eye-catching rose pattern is in the way you slice and arrange the strawberries. Using a sharp knife or mandoline to cut the strawberries paper-thin ensures they are flexible enough to curl and layer like petals. Starting from the outer edge of the tart and moving inward in a spiral gives the tart a realistic rose appearance, making your dessert as beautiful as it is tasty. When preparing the tart crust, chilling the dough thoroughly before rolling helps maintain its shape and texture, preventing shrinking during baking. Freezing the tart shells before baking, as described, ensures they hold their form and come out golden and crisp. For the vanilla pastry cream, patience is essential. Whisking constantly while cooking prevents lumps and creates a smooth, thick custard that pairs perfectly with the fresh tartness of the strawberries. Covering the pastry cream with plastic wrap directly on the surface stops a skin from forming, keeping the texture silky. From personal experience, using vanilla bean paste instead of vanilla extract elevates the pastry cream's flavor with subtle, aromatic notes that complement the strawberries beautifully. Additionally, ensuring your strawberries are fresh and ripe enhances the overall taste and appearance of the tart. These strawberry rose tarts are not only visually stunning but also healthy and light, making them a perfect dessert for summer occasions or as part of a balanced lifestyle. Sharing this recipe at gatherings impresses guests and encourages healthier homemade dessert options.
