Marker drawing 🎨
Hey everyone! I recently dove into the wonderful world of marker drawing, and I have to say, it’s been incredibly relaxing and rewarding. If you've been thinking about trying your hand at art but feel a bit intimidated, marker drawing is a fantastic place to start, especially for beginners. I wanted to share my own journey and some easy tips and ideas that helped me get going, hoping to inspire you too! When I first started, I wasn't sure what markers to even buy. There are so many options out there! For beginners, I'd highly recommend starting with a basic set of alcohol-based markers. You don’t need to break the bank on professional brands right away. Look for sets that offer a decent range of colors and, if possible, dual tips—a fine tip for details and a chisel tip for broader strokes. This versatility is super helpful. And don't forget good quality paper! Thicker paper designed for markers or even cardstock can prevent bleeding and give you a much better experience. Trust me, it makes a huge difference! Now for the fun part: what to draw? The beauty of markers is that you can create beautiful art with very simple ideas. Here are some of my go-to easy marker art ideas that any beginner can try: Simple Doodles & Patterns: Start with basic shapes like stars, hearts, circles, or leaves. Practice drawing repetitive patterns like stripes, polka dots, or checkerboards. You can fill a whole page with these and create a really abstract and eye-catching piece. It builds confidence and helps you get a feel for the markers. Everyday Objects: Look around your room! A coffee cup, a piece of fruit, a book, or a plant can be fantastic subjects. Break them down into simple shapes first, then add color. Don't worry about perfection; focus on enjoying the process. Nature-Inspired Art: Simple flowers, clouds, or even a sunset can be great for practicing color blending. Try drawing a few petals with different shades of the same color to see how they blend. Food Fun: Who doesn't love drawing food? Think about a juicy slice of watermelon, a colorful cupcake, or a stack of pancakes. The vibrant colors of markers really bring these to life! Here are a few quick tips I picked up along the way that made my marker drawing experience so much better: Swatch Your Colors: Always test your marker colors on a scrap piece of paper before applying them to your main drawing. Colors can look different on paper than they do on the marker cap! Layering is Key: Alcohol markers are great for layering. Start with your lightest colors first, and then gradually build up darker shades. This creates depth and allows for smoother blending. Blending Techniques: For smoother transitions, you can use a colorless blender marker, or simply blend similar colors while they are still wet. Work quickly! Outline Last: If you like crisp lines, do your marker coloring first, and then go over it with a fine-liner pen. This prevents the marker ink from bleeding into your outlines. Practice, Practice, Practice: Don't be afraid to experiment! The more you draw, the more comfortable you'll become with your markers and develop your own style. Remember, art is about expression, not perfection. I've found that the sound of markers on paper can even be quite soothing, almost like an ASMR experience, which adds to the enjoyment. It’s a wonderful way to unwind after a long day. So grab some markers, pick an easy idea, and just start drawing! You might surprise yourself with what you can create. Happy drawing!
