I’m a #AppleShamer
I may be on this island by myself, but Red Delicious Apples get no love from me. I’m seriously wondering who thought to assign them the name. They are indeed red, but delicious, come now. I think we all know that there are several varieties of apple that are better suited to carry the crown. I’ve been testing the theory of whether eating an apple a day actually keeps the doctor away. I’ll let you all know if my next doctor visit sees a significant change in my numbers. I bet they’ll tell me that red delicious are the most nutritious. Go figure! #lemon8contest #AskLemon8
While the Red Delicious apple may be iconic for its bright color and widespread availability, it is often criticized for its bland flavor and mealy texture. Many apple enthusiasts prefer alternatives such as Honeycrisp, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Gala, which are praised for their balance of sweetness and tartness, as well as firmer flesh that enhances eating experience. Nutritionally, all apple varieties provide dietary fiber, vitamin C, and various antioxidants that contribute to overall health. However, some studies suggest that apples with darker skins, like Red Delicious, contain higher levels of certain polyphenols which may offer additional health benefits. Despite this, flavor and texture remain crucial factors influencing consumer preference. The old adage "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" underscores the importance of apples in a balanced diet. Apples are low in calories and help promote digestive health, support immune function, and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes due to their nutrient content. When selecting apples, consider both nutritional value and personal taste preferences. Experimenting with different varieties can enrich your diet and make healthy eating more enjoyable. Ultimately, while Red Delicious apples hold nostalgic value, exploring a range of apple types can better satisfy your palate and nutritional needs.

I love green apples, the sour ones! I need them to be sweet, sour and or juicy!
