One of my favorite experiences with rain photography involved heading out just after a light shower, when streets glisten under streetlights and umbrellas add vibrant pops of color. Carrying a waterproof camera or protective covering is essential to keep your gear safe. Leveraging slow shutter speeds can create mesmerizing effects with falling raindrops, while a fast shutter freezes the droplets mid-air for dynamic shots. Paying attention to reflections in puddles can lead to compelling compositions that double the visual interest. Also, including people or animals sheltering from the rain adds emotional layers to your images. Don’t be afraid to experiment with black-and-white formats, which emphasize contrasts and shadows beautifully in rainy conditions. Incorporating elements like wet leaves, rain-soaked streets, and water droplets on surfaces invites viewers to feel the atmosphere of the rainy day.
