hubby bought mea Medusa cactus today
Oh my goodness, you guys! My husband knows me so well. He totally surprised me with the most incredible Medusa cactus today, and I'm still buzzing with excitement! I've been eyeing one of these unique beauties for ages, and now it's finally mine! This plant, officially known as *Euphorbia caput-medusae*, is just stunning. It gets its name from those amazing, snake-like stems that branch out from a central caudex, totally reminiscent of Medusa's hair. Every time I look at it, I feel like I'm looking at a living piece of art! Since I just got it, I've been diving deep into how to keep this little gem thriving. For anyone else who's curious or thinking of getting one, here's what I've learned so far! First off, these are sun-lovers. They absolutely adore bright, direct sunlight, so I'm planning to place mine in my sunniest window. If you don't have super bright spots, some indirect light is okay, but direct sun really helps them put on their best show and might even encourage those cool, tiny yellow flowers they can produce. Watering is key, and just like many succulents, less is often more. The general rule I've picked up is to let the soil completely dry out between waterings. I'll be sticking my finger deep into the pot to check before I even think about giving it a drink. During winter, when it's dormant, I'll pretty much forget about watering it, maybe just a tiny sip every few weeks. Overwatering is a quick way to send these beauties to plant heaven, so I'm going to be super careful! As for soil, good drainage is non-negotiable. I'm going to make sure it's in a well-draining cactus mix, perhaps with some extra perlite or pumice to really boost that drainage. These plants aren't too fussy about nutrients, but a little diluted succulent fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer) can give them a nice boost. And temperature-wise, they prefer warmer conditions, ideally between 65-80°F (18-27°C). I'll need to protect it from any cold drafts. I'm so thrilled to start this journey with my new Medusa cactus!
