What it’s like to be over 50 on Lemon8

Hi y’all! Where are all my ladies over 50?

I’m 65 and noticed that most of the posts on Lemon8 are by women much younger than myself. You know what I mean. Oh, to be young again. Oh, to have younger looking skin. Oh, to have the energy to make it through an 8-hour day. Oh, and to be able to wear a two-piece swimsuit again!

But being over 50 in today’s world doesn’t mean we have to bow down to skinny, beautiful younger women. We have so much to offer and teach to younger folks. I love the digital world and have been a part of it since 1999. I love the online communities to communicate with everyone of all ages! We all help each other out and I have learned so much from so many.

So, for all of you “mature” women looking for your place in Lemon8, this post is for you! But this post is also for all the “younger” women out there because your “mature” day will be here before you know it. It’s right around the corner. It’s standing right behind you. Time flies by so fast when you are getting old!

If you are going through menopause right now. Hang in there. You will get through it! Things did really change during that process. I gained about 40 pounds, my energy level fell apart, sleeping all night was a joke, hot flashes would literally make me ill, the anxiety was so bad that it got to where I couldn’t ride in a car, when I sneezed or coughed I piss my pants, I was eating everything (hence the 40 pound weight gain), a foggy brain, my arm pits smell like something died (I kid you not), and the worse part was not having any attention span.

When I finally had enough of feeling so bad, I had a long talk with my PA. She looked over my extensive blood work, and realized I was really low, no, extremely low on a lot of essential vitamins that help with menopause. I stopped all sodas and coffee, started taking those essential vitamins and eating a much cleaner low-carb diet.

Over the next few months, it was like my body said YES! Why haven’t you done this years ago. Ladies, if menopause is recking your life. Find out what’s going on. There is so much out there now to help. There is no reason to miss out on a glorious part of your life because of menopause. I haven’t found a cure for the dead smelling pits though. 😎

I have embraced the aging process but I’m also not going to let it overtake me. I have a few suggestions that have kept the aging process to a slower growth and have worked wonderfully for me.

➡️ Make sunscreen your best friend. Use it. Everyday!

➡️ Workout. Often. Doesn’t matter your form of workout. Just keep moving.

➡️ Eat the healthiest and cleanest you can. But don’t forget that cheating is OK!

➡️ Drink lots of water during the day. Your skin will thank you!

➡️ Find your passions and work on them. Grow with them. Pass them on.

I love working on my passions of getting my hands dirty in the garden, traveling, trying out new recipes, taking pictures and spending time with y'all! My passions help to keep my brain moving and to enjoy life more. I truly live an abundant life!

And here is one thing that I’ve learned.

⭐⭐ Aging is another word for living! ⭐⭐

The picture above is me laughing at aging. It truly is just a number.

Tell me about you and your passions and life over 50.

... Read moreThe journey of aging is truly a unique one, filled with its own set of challenges and triumphs. As a woman who's proudly navigating life over 50, I've learned that embracing every stage is key to living a truly abundant life. Beyond the initial tips I shared, I want to dive a little deeper into how we can not just cope, but thrive during this incredible phase. Nurturing Your Body and Mind: We touched on exercise and healthy eating, but let's remember the mental game. Keeping our brains active is just as crucial. For me, that means diving into new hobbies, whether it's learning a new language online, taking up painting, or simply engaging in stimulating conversations. And speaking of physical well-being, don't underestimate the power of a good night's sleep – something that can be elusive during menopause, as I've experienced firsthand! Establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, maybe with some calming herbal tea or a warm bath, can make a world of difference. It's about listening to our bodies and giving them the rest they deserve. Don't forget the importance of regular check-ups, ensuring everything from your heart to your dental health is in top shape, contributing to that radiant, confident smile. The Power of Connection and Community: One of the most beautiful aspects of platforms like Lemon8 is the chance to connect with others who understand. Building a community, whether online or offline, provides invaluable support and friendship. Sharing laughs, like the one in my profile picture where I'm joyfully showing my teeth, is so good for the soul! It reminds us that confidence and happiness radiate from within, no matter our age or what physical changes we encounter. This confidence extends to all aspects of our health – from the energy we have to pursue our passions to maintaining good oral hygiene, ensuring our smiles are bright and healthy, just like our spirits. Finding your tribe, those who uplift and inspire you, is truly a treasure, offering a space to share, learn, and grow together. Self-Care is Non-Negotiable: For years, many of us put others first. Now, it's our time to prioritize self-care. This isn't selfish; it's essential. This can be anything from regular massages and facials (yes, sunscreen is still your best friend!), to simply dedicating an hour each day to reading or meditation. When we take care of ourselves, we have more to give to others and more energy to pursue our passions. One of my greatest joys is exploring new passions. Whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the garden, trying out new recipes, or simply capturing beautiful moments with my camera (often peeking through my favorite black-framed glasses!), these activities keep my mind sharp and my spirit alive. They're not just hobbies; they're vital outlets that fuel my sense of purpose and bring immense satisfaction. Think about what truly ignites your spark – is it volunteering, delving into crafts, or perhaps sharing your wisdom with younger generations? Whatever it is, dedicate time to it. It’s a powerful way to stay engaged and find meaning in every day. Remember, every day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and embrace the richness of life. Don't let a number define you. Instead, let your experiences and wisdom shine through, inspiring not only yourself but also those around you!
