5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Studying Abroad

I highly suggest studying abroad to anyone who gets the opportunity!! It was the best experience of my life. If you are contemplating going abroad or are getting ready to leave here are 5 things I wish I knew before studying abroad.

After classes start people’s schedules get packed. Your time abroad will go by a lot quicker than you think so you need to pre plan trips so you aren’t trying to make last minute trips or miss out on ones that you really wanted to do. This is something that happened to me there was one place I still want to go to and unfortunately it went by too fast.

Although pictures count as memories I think keeping a daily journal is such a great way to remember your time abroad. You can leave spots to print out pictures and look back at your trip. This is a great way to always remember all the amazing things you did!

Although touristy pics may seem cringe TAKE THEM!!! You are going to regret it. I am the type of person who likes to be present and take less photos, but after I got back home I quickly regretted not taking more pics!!

We all chose to go abroad for a reason, don’t forget that. Things become very fast paced and it becomes hard to do all of the cultural things we want. These moments should be your priority there. There is always a chance that you may never go back to the country you studied in.

So many people told me to pack light, but honestly I really didn’t listen to that too much. I learned quickly that I should have listened. It’s hard to travel with so many belongings, and there are so many things I brought including cloths that I didn’t use or wear. I wish that I specifically planned out everything that I brought to limit the items!

Building a network will enrich your experience and provide support during your stay. 4. **Stay Flexible**: While planning is essential, be open to spontaneous adventures and changes in plans. Some of the best experiences come from unexpected moments. 5. **Capture Experiences Beyond Photos**: In addition to taking pictures, collect mementos like tickets, postcards, or local souvenirs.
