For me, those were the golden days of portable gaming, and honestly, even in 2024, the nostalgia hits hard when I think about it. I remember countless hours spent with friends, all huddled around, sharing screens, and yelling with laughter during intense rounds of MARIOPARTY. The mini-games were addicting, and the sheer joy of blowing into the microphone or drawing on the touchscreen felt revolutionary at the time. It wasn't just a console; it was a social hub, a pocket-sized adventure machine that went everywhere with me. From long car rides to sleepovers, my DS was my constant companion, bringing countless 'in the palm of your hand' adventures. What makes the Nintendo DS such a timeless retro gaming experience even now? For starters, its library is just phenomenal. Beyond Mario Party, there were groundbreaking titles like Nintendogs, Brain Age, Professor Layton, and of course, the incredible Pokémon games that truly leveraged the dual-screen setup.
