Couponing at Dollar General

Other than a couple of single drinks, this is everything we got at Dollar General today. Almost $85 total, but with coupons we saved $32.20. This was two separate transactions but overall this is probably the most successful couponing day I’ve had so far!

... Read moreBuilding on my recent Dollar General couponing success, I wanted to share some of my absolute best tips for saving big – not just for today, but looking ahead to 2025! It's more than just clipping paper coupons; it's about smart strategy. First and foremost, the Dollar General app is your best friend. Seriously, download it if you haven't already! This is where you'll find all the digital coupons. These often include valuable discounts on essentials like paper towels, dishwasher detergent, and personal care items like deodorant and toothpaste. Make sure to 'clip' these digital coupons before you head to the store. They stack seamlessly at checkout, making saving effortless. I always check it on Friday evenings to plan my Saturday trip. Speaking of Saturdays, the $5 off $25 Saturday coupon is legendary among Dollar General couponers. This is a game-changer! You can combine this store coupon with manufacturer digital coupons to maximize your savings. For example, if you find a digital coupon for taco dinner kits and another for canned pasta with meatballs, and you're already buying yogurt tubes and granola bars for the week, aim to get your subtotal to $25 before any coupons, and then watch the savings pile up! This is how I often manage to get my totals down significantly. Don't overlook the clearance sections! I’ve stumbled upon incredible deals on seasonal items, holiday candy, and even sometimes pantry staples. These are usually marked with yellow or red tags. Sometimes, these clearance items even have digital coupons that apply, which is like a double discount jackpot! You might find specialty snacks like frozen savory pastries or limited-edition potato chips at rock-bottom prices. Another pro tip for 2025 and beyond: always check the weekly ad. This gives you a heads-up on upcoming sales. Pair these sales with your clipped digital coupons for the biggest impact. Comparison shopping briefly with other discount stores like Family Dollar can also give you an edge, but Dollar General's digital coupon game is often stronger in my experience. Finally, stay organized. I keep a small folder for any physical coupons I might have, and I make my shopping list based on what coupons I have and what's on sale. This prevents impulse buys and ensures I'm always getting the best value. Joining online couponing groups or following couponing social media accounts can also keep you updated on new deals and potential glitches or unadvertised sales. Happy saving!
