🇯🇲🕊️ Final preparations for Daddy’s funeral in Jamaica.
The last few weeks have felt like a lifetime. Phone calls, paperwork, travel plans, family meetings, tears, memories, and moments where I still reach for my phone, forgetting that the call I want to make can no longer be answered.
Today we are putting the final pieces in place to celebrate the life of my father, Lenworth “Ika Joe” Geddes.
Nothing prepares you for saying goodbye to someone who has been part of your story for your entire life. Yet through the grief, I am grateful. Grateful for the memories, the lessons, the laughter, the garden talks, the Sunday beach days, and the love that remains even after a person is gone.
As family gathers from near and far, we come together not only to mourn his passing but to honor a life that touched so many.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. ❤️🕊️
Please keep our family in your prayers as we prepare to lay Daddy to rest.

Preparing for a loved one’s funeral, especially a parent, is an emotional and complex journey. From personal experience, I can say that the process involved a blend of sorrow, reflection, and a deep desire to honor their memory respectfully. One of the most important aspects is coming together as a family, sharing stories, recalling beautiful moments, and providing mutual support. This communal healing can sometimes feel like the most vital step in transforming grief into a lasting tribute. In Jamaica, funeral preparations not only involve the logistical aspects like paperwork and travel, but also personal traditions that celebrate the life lived. For many families, this includes specific cultural or religious ceremonies, music that holds meaning, and gatherings at beloved places such as beaches or gardens—spaces where the departed felt peace and joy. These rituals help create a sense of closure and continuity. The feelings of reaching out for a phone call that cannot be answered echo deeply, reminding us of how much an individual’s presence shapes our daily lives. Yet, amidst the sadness, gratitude often follows. Gratitude for the lessons learned, the shared laughter, and the everyday moments that created an irreplaceable bond. These memories become the foundation of a legacy that continues to inspire those left behind. If you find yourself on a similar journey, it’s helpful to lean on your support networks, whether family, friends, or community groups, and to honor your grief in your own time and way. Keeping a journal or sharing stories aloud can provide comfort and preserve memories. Remember that every family’s way of saying goodbye is unique and can include both solemn quiet moments and joyful celebrations of life. Ultimately, laying a loved one to rest is not just about saying goodbye—but also about embracing the ongoing presence they hold in your heart and the stories you will carry forward. Through faith, family unity, and the remembrance of shared experiences, the legacy of love and connection endures beyond the final farewell.

My sincere condolences to you and the family
