One of my Hobbies
Some people say crocheting is relaxing. There are times when I agree with that but there are also times where I disagree with it. Learning a new pattern can be fun but definitely make a swatch of the pattern before diving headfirst into it and wasting yarn. I do have to say the single crochet is by far my least favorite stitch so far. I’m still learning all the different stitches I’m up to the double crochet. I haven’t done anything fancier than that.
Do you have a favorite stitch or pattern?
When I first picked up a crochet hook, I honestly found myself asking, "Is crocheting a waste of time?" There were moments of pure frustration, especially when a pattern just wouldn't click, or I'd spend hours on something only to realize I'd made a mistake a dozen rows back. It's easy to look at the time investment and wonder if it's truly worth it. But through my own journey, I've discovered that it's far from a waste. For starters, the mental benefits are immense. There’s a meditative quality to the repetitive motion of looping yarn that can be incredibly calming. After a long, stressful day, sitting down with my current project, whether it's a simple scarf or a more complex design like a ripple stitch baby blanket, helps me unwind. It's a fantastic way to practice mindfulness, focusing on the present moment and letting go of daily worries. Even though the single crochet stitch might be my least favorite, and I'm still working my way up past the double crochet, every new stitch learned feels like a small victory. Then there's the joy of creation. There's something truly special about holding a finished item in your hands, knowing you made it yourself. Whether it's a cozy blanket, a cute amigurumi, or a handmade gift for a friend, the sense of accomplishment is profound. It’s not just about the end product; it’s about the process, the learning, and the small improvements with each project. I've found that crocheting actually enhances my problem-solving skills – trying to decipher a tricky pattern or correct a mistake without unraveling everything can be quite the mental workout! And let's not forget the practicality. Handmade items often have a unique charm and durability that store-bought goods sometimes lack. I've saved money by making gifts, and there's a certain pride in knowing I can craft something beautiful and functional. So, if you're ever asking yourself, "Is crocheting a waste of time?" I'd encourage you to think about the relaxation, the creativity, the personal growth, and the wonderful handmade items you can bring into the world. It’s a hobby that truly gives back, far beyond the initial time investment.

I've always wanted to try! My mamaw did this among many other crafting hobbies back in the day 🥰
