this novella is about Nora and Dagesh.

Life is hard on an ice planet for the humans to adapt too, then add getting a mate and having their babies, but Nora had twins. That’s hard on a person even on earth. Dagesh is a hunter that is now worried even more about taking care of his family and is working from sun up to sun down to hunt as much as possible to make sure his family as well as the rest of the tribe is taken care of. Nora is feeling overwhelmed with the babies and everything being different and not getting to see her mate. She decides to befriend the tribe “outcast” Asha and learns that she isn’t as bad as everyone thought.

... Read moreMany people stumble upon 'Ice Ice Babies' by Ruby Dixon and immediately wonder if it's a children's book, especially given the adorable cover featuring those light blue-skinned babies with headbands! But let me tell you, as a fellow reader, this novella is definitely for adults who love sci-fi romance. It's a captivating 'Slice of Life Short Story' set within Ruby Dixon's famous 'Ice Planet Barbarians' universe, and while it focuses on new parents Nora and Dagesh with their twins, the themes are very much adult – navigating survival, relationships, and the unique challenges of life on an alien ice planet. It's far from a typical kids' story, addressing mature themes of adaptation, partnership, and the complexities of family life in a thrilling, romantic setting. So, if you're asking 'is Ice Ice Baby appropriate for kids?', the answer is a resounding no for this Ruby Dixon gem! If you're new to the 'RUBYVERSE' or Ruby Dixon's work, it's easy to get confused. Her 'Ice Planet Barbarians' series, often recognized by its distinctive icy, metallic title lettering on covers, is known for its steamy alien romance, where resourceful human women find mates among the Sah-kahar, the indigenous blue-skinned inhabitants of a frozen, unforgiving world. 'Ice Ice Babies' offers a heartwarming yet realistic glimpse into the domestic side of this world, showcasing the struggles and joys of expanding a family in such a harsh environment. It’s a perfect example of why I find her writing so captivating – she takes these grand sci-fi settings and grounds them with relatable human (and alien) emotions, making the characters feel incredibly real despite their fantastical circumstances. And no, this isn't 'Ice Ice Baby' by Carly Robyn or any other author you might be thinking of! This is pure Ruby Dixon magic, offering a unique blend of science fiction and romance. What makes these novellas, like 'Ice Ice Babies', so special is their ability to deliver a complete, satisfying story in a shorter format. You get all the emotional depth and world-building you expect from a full-length novel, but in a concise, engaging package. For Nora and Dagesh, seeing them juggle the immense demands of twin infants while Dagesh tirelessly hunts for the tribe and Nora seeks companionship with an 'outcast' like Asha, truly resonated with me. It highlights the universal challenges of new parenthood, just with an exciting, extraterrestrial twist that only Ruby Dixon can deliver. These 'slice of life' stories are a cherished part of the Ice Planet Barbarians saga for many fans. They provide a wonderful opportunity to slow down and appreciate the everyday moments and character development outside of the high-stakes drama that often defines main series entries. They offer a comforting look at established couples and how they overcome new, domestic challenges, which can be incredibly satisfying. If you enjoy romance with strong heroines, protective alien heroes, and unique world-building – then this novella, and indeed the entire 'RUBYVERSE', is definitely worth exploring. It's a fantastic read for adult romance fans who enjoy a bit of alien adventure and emotional depth, especially if you're looking for something that perfectly balances heat and heart on an ice planet.
