Current Read | Budgeting 101

I am currently reading this book here, Budgeting 101. I got this from FiveBelow (they have a good selection of books for journaling, self help, etc) recently and have been putting off this book.

I think really understanding the importance of finances is so important. Getting out of debt and setting goals for finances will definitely put you on the path to financial freedom.

... Read morePicking up 'Budgeting 101' by Michele Cagan was a big step for me, and honestly, a long time coming. For ages, the idea of budgeting felt overwhelming – like a strict financial diet I knew I’d fail at. But as I’ve gotten older, and seen friends achieve amazing financial milestones, I’ve realized just how crucial understanding my finances truly is. That moment when I spotted this book at FiveBelow, amidst a pile of other self-help treasures, I knew it was a sign to finally dive in. I’d been putting it off, but the thought of gaining genuine control over my money, strategically getting out of debt, and truly building a path to financial freedom became too strong to ignore. It’s more than just numbers; it’s about peace of mind. This book, according to its cover and what I'm starting to grasp, promises a 'crash course' in budgeting, covering everything from the foundational steps of tracking expenses to the more advanced strategies for building savings and achieving big financial dreams. My absolute biggest goal right now is getting out of debt, and I'm really hoping Michele Cagan's insights will give me the practical tools and mindset shifts I need. It’s not just about paying off credit cards or student loans; it’s about breaking the cycle, understanding why debt accumulates, and preventing future debt from piling up. I’m looking forward to learning how to create a realistic payment plan and stick to it. One aspect I'm particularly excited about is learning how to effectively set financial goals. It’s one thing to vaguely say 'I want to save money someday,' but another entirely to create a clear, actionable, and achievable plan. Whether it's saving for a down payment on a home, a dream vacation, or just building a solid emergency fund that truly covers several months of expenses, having a structured approach is absolutely key. The book emphasizes that these aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet; they're tangible steps towards a more secure, less stressful, and ultimately, more fulfilling life. I'm already thinking about how I can apply these principles to my own life, starting with a deep dive into where my money actually goes each month – no more guessing! I've always believed that personal finance is, well, deeply personal. What works for one person might not work for another. But from what I've seen, 'Budgeting 101' seems to offer a flexible framework that can be adapted to individual circumstances. It’s not about deprivation or living without fun; it’s about intentional spending and saving, making your money truly work for you. I’m eager to learn about the various budgeting methods Michele Cagan discusses – perhaps the 50/30/20 rule, or zero-based budgeting – and find one that truly resonates with my lifestyle. This isn't just a book I'm reading; it's a guide for a real-life transformation. I’m ready to embrace this journey and redefine my relationship with money, moving from anxiety to empowerment. If you're also on a similar path, or considering starting your own budgeting adventure, I highly recommend checking out this essential guide!
