college isn't always linear... and that's okay
dear #Lemon8Diary,
my college journey wasn't what i thought it would be and i'm fine with that.
here's my story: i entered college in 2014 as an elementary education major. i knew going in that the education program was VERY competitive and chances were low that i'd get in. fast forward... i didn't and changed my major to biology which kicked. my. ass!!! well chemistry at least. high school doesn't prepare you for college chem at all.
i've never been good at school and that showed itself when i got put on academic probation then academic suspension which resulted in my having to take a semester off.
after coming back i switched to environmental studies and that was seriously one of the best decisions of my life. i was taking courses that i was genuinely interested in and learning so much!
there were soooo many tears through my 4.5 years of school but they were all worth it.
if you're thinking about applying to college, the main point of advice is give is to go in doing something YOU want to do and not what other people
want you to do.

Navigating the college landscape can be daunting, especially when your path doesn't align with expectations. Many students face challenges such as changing majors, dealing with academic probation, or taking breaks. It's essential to understand that not every journey is straightforward; some students thrive in majors that truly resonate with their interests. For instance, my switch from elementary education to environmental studies made all the difference. Research indicates that students who engage with their studies in areas they are passionate about report higher satisfaction and retention rates. This highlights the importance of authenticity in choosing your academic path. Additionally, the support of peers can be invaluable during tough times. Participating in study groups or seeking mentorship can provide encouragement and enhance learning. It's also crucial to remember that setbacks are part of the journey. Whether facing difficult classes, needing extra time to graduate, or taking a semester off, these experiences often contribute significantly to personal growth. By embracing the non-linear aspects of education, students can discover resilience and adaptability, equipping them for future challenges beyond college. So, if you're preparing to enter college, prioritize what YOU want to do, and approach your education with an open mind and heart.
