Before you ask, yes I can still do all of my farm chores🤣
Also, I am fully aware that they are still not perfect but I’ve seen some pretty whack nails on here soooooo…
- Seriously though, the amount of money I have saved in the last 10 months is crazy.
- if you’ve been considering buying those nail products just do it. Start with a friend and maybe split the cost of products! Watch a YouTube video & learn something new!
Practice on your friends and family. You’ll thank yourself later when you’re getting complimented.🥰
... Read moreOkay, so you've seen my journey, and let me tell you, those early sets were a hot mess! If you're struggling with thick acrylic nails or those frustrating uneven lines and lumps, you're not alone. I've been there, and I've learned a few things that might help you skip some of my 'yikes' moments.
First off, let's talk about *thick acrylic nails*. My initial problem was just piling on too much product, thinking more was better. Wrong! The key is to pick up the right size bead of acrylic – not too wet, not too dry. You want it to be workable, not runny or crumbly. When applying, focus on thin, even layers. Build up the nail gradually, especially around the apex, which is crucial for strength and preventing breaks. Remember that image where I asked, 'Where is the apex tho?' Yeah, that was a real learning curve! If your nails are looking a bit chunky, don't be afraid to file them down. A good e-file can be a game-changer, but even hand-filing with the right technique can make a huge difference in achieving a sleek, professional look. Always check your side profile to ensure it's not too thick near the cuticles or tip.
Next up: *uneven lines, lumps, and bumps*. Oh, how I hated those 'random lumps and bumps'! This often comes down to inconsistent application and sometimes using products that set too fast for your working speed. One tip I picked up is to ensure your brush is clean and saturated with monomer, but not dripping. This helps the product self-level better. When doing nail art, like those checkerboard designs I mentioned were 'HARD,' precision is everything. Investing in a really fine liner brush can make all the difference for crisp lines. If you're working with blooming gel, understanding its properties will help you create beautiful, consistent patterns without jagged edges. Practice on a nail wheel first to get your lines smooth before moving to your actual nails.
It's also worth saying, don't skimp on *nail prep*! My earlier issues with 'old, expired products & poor application' taught me this the hard way. Properly prepping your natural nail – pushing back cuticles, gently buffing, and using a dehydrator and primer – makes a world of difference in adhesion and preventing lifting. When your foundation is strong, your acrylic application will look much cleaner and last longer.
And finally, don't get discouraged! This is a journey. I watched countless YouTube videos, practiced on myself, friends, and even old nail tips. Every set teaches you something new, whether it's how to blend colors, perfect your ombré, or master those intricate designs with checker stickers. It might feel unaesthetic at first, but with persistence, you'll see amazing progress. Keep investing in yourself and your skills – it's so rewarding to show off your beautiful, self-made nails!
