How does the Internet work? Easy to understand in 5 minutes! 🌐
Have you ever wondered how when we type a web name and the data comes to us? Imagine that the Internet is the largest postal system in the world! Let's see how each step works.
The main components to know
💻 Client: Is Our Device (Computer, Mobile)
💾 Server: is a large computer that stores website information.
🏡 IP Address: The unique address of each device on the Internet.
📒 DNS (Domain Name System): Like a phone book that converts a web name that we remember easily (such as https://www.google.com/url?sa=E&source=gmail&q=google.com) into an IP Address that the computer understands.
The process of sending data from source to destination.
Send request: We type www.google.com in the browser. ➡️ This information will be sent out as a "request."
Address Search: Our request asks the DNS where google.com is (what IP Address) and the DNS will return.
Divided Data: Our requests are broken into small pieces called "packets" to make them easier and faster to send. Each packet has a destination address attached to it.
Travel: All packets will travel through the fastest route to Google's Server, which may travel on different routes.
Data: Once the packet reaches the Server, it will be put back together. The Server will know what we want.
Send it back: Server sends Google's website data back in packet form, ➡️ the packet will travel back to us.
Display: Our browser brings the packets together and shows us the website page www.google.com.
In a simple way, the data on the Internet does not travel in a single chunk, but is divided into small packets sent to the correct address (IP Address), with DNS as a guide to make it easier for us to remember web names!
