From the previous post that shared the experience of trading Thai - U.S. stocks, today I will ask you for your investment knowledge.
What is Odd Lot, Board Lot and Fractional Share?
In the stock market, trading units are divided into three main categories to make trading systematic and clear.
Board Lot & Odd Lot
Board Lots is the normal trading unit specified by the stock exchange. In Thailand, 1 Board Lot is 100 shares. Investors must trade an integer multiple of 100 shares, such as 100, 200 or 1,000 shares.
Odd Lots are sub-units or stock fragments with less than 1 Board Lot, which in Thailand means from 1 to 99 shares. Trading Odd Lots must be done through a dedicated trading board.
Fractional Share
Fractional share, or fractional share, is the purchase of only part of a stock (less than 1 share), often used in the U.S. stock market, such as Apple shares with a high price per share. Investors can buy only 0.1 or 0.5 shares for the required amount, making it easier for retail people to access the shares of large companies.
Shareholder rights
Whether holding Board Lots, Odd Lots or Fractional Shares, everyone has ownership rights in accordance with the stake held, including:
Dividend entitlement: in proportion to the number of shares held.
Voting rights: At a shareholder meeting (1 share can be collected to complete voting rights)
Right to sell shares: Can be sold at any time through an active platform.
