Writing Marathon

What’s a writing marathon? It’s when you take a walk until you are inspired to write. Take that moment, breathe it in, and write for ten minutes. If you walk with a group or friend, share what each of you wrote before continuing on your walk. I learned this technique at Drew University during the Summer Institute for the National Writing Project. These were my stops today as I took a solo writing marathon. I’ll share my writing separately.

Take a look at these photos. Would these spots inspire you? Would they inspire your students? Try this with your students and let me know in the comments how it went. :)

... Read moreWriting marathons can significantly boost your creativity and productivity as a writer. This technique encourages individuals to immerse themselves in nature, providing a refreshing backdrop that can ignite new ideas. To implement a successful writing marathon, choose a scenic route that resonates with you—perhaps a local park or a quiet street. As you stroll, reflect on your writing goals and allow your thoughts to flow freely. It’s advisable to carry a notebook or use digital notes on your phone to capture ideas instantly. Additionally, incorporating writing marathons into your teaching can create a dynamic classroom environment. Engage your students by encouraging them to express their emotions and thoughts during the walk, fostering a habit of reflection and creativity. After the excursion, facilitate a sharing session, enabling students to present their pieces, helping to build confidence and improve their writing skills. Overall, writing marathons not only enhance individual creativity but also promote community and communication among peers. Consider scheduling a monthly writing marathon with friends or colleagues to make it a fun and collaborative activity. Let the inspiration of your surroundings guide you and transform your writing experience.

Last year I watched the NYC Marathon and decided that I wanted to run it one day. Getting into the NYC Marathon isn’t an easy task. You can run with charity, but you have to raise $3k or more, you can get in through the lottery (hundreds of thousands people try), or you can do the 9+1 program an

I am so proud to say I ran my first Half Marathon! I put in a lot of training and hard work. I almost couldn’t run this because 3 weeks before my race I developed a stress injury. I seen doctors, had an mri, went to physical therapy, recovery therapy, and did everything I could to run this race.

Half Marathon Training Plan
Last week I ran my first half marathon in almost 2 years!! I had taken a break from longer distances and stuck to 5 and 10Ks for a while since that’s what I enjoy most! But training for this half helped me get motivated to do longer runs and actually ignited a new love for longer (for me) runs!
