Content Creator Gear Breakdown

Hey! I’m Ashley. I’m a content creator who loves tech, cameras, and making gear work for your workflow. I use a mix of Android, Apple, and Sony to create everything from YouTube videos to Reels and daily BTS.

Here’s what’s in my filming setup (and when I use each one):

✨ Sony ZV-E1 – My main YouTube camera for A-roll and product shots

📱 S25 Edge – My daily driver for stories, photos, and Android-only features I love

🍎 iPhone 16 Pro Max – Reels + AirDrop magic when I need quick iOS content

💻 MacBook Pro – Where I edit it all together in DaVinci Resolve

Each device plays a different role — and that’s what makes my workflow so smooth.

Let me know what’s in your setup! Are you iPhone-only or a little bit of everything like me?

... Read moreIt’s amazing how many tools we have at our fingertips as content creators today! While my main article gives you a quick snapshot of my personal filming setup, I really want to dive deeper into why a hybrid approach with a mix of camera and phone is so beneficial, and how you can build or optimize your own setup to truly elevate your content. For me, the decision to use a combination of devices isn't just about having cool gadgets; it's about maximizing flexibility and quality for different types of content. My Sony ZV-E1 camera, for instance, is a powerhouse for crisp 4K video on YouTube, perfect for those sit-down talks or detailed product shots. But let's be real, I'm not lugging that around for every single piece of content. That's where my S25 Edge smartphone comes in – it’s my go-to for casual B-roll, stories, and on-the-go shooting. It’s always with me, ready to capture impromptu moments. And my iPhone 16 Pro Max smartphone excels at producing high-quality Instagram Reels and stories that demand a certain compression quality for social platforms. This division of labor makes my workflow incredibly smooth and efficient, allowing each piece of tech to shine where it performs best. If you're just starting out or looking to upgrade your own content creator filming setup, my biggest piece of advice is to start with your budget and your primary content platform. Don't feel pressured to buy the most expensive camera right away. Your phone is likely a fantastic starting point! Many creators build huge audiences filming exclusively with an iPhone or a high-end Android smartphone. Once you know your main platform (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram) and the type of content you want to create (vlogs, tutorials, short-form dances), you can then identify the key gear. Beyond the main camera or phone, don't forget essential accessories. Good audio is often more important than good video – invest in a lavalier mic or a shotgun mic. Decent lighting (even a simple ring light) and stabilization (a small tripod or gimbal) can dramatically improve your production value, whether you're using a Sony ZV-E1 or just your S25 Edge. When it comes to filming with your smartphone, there are a few pro tips I've picked up. Always clean your lens – a smudged lens can ruin otherwise perfect footage. Utilize natural light whenever possible, or position yourself well with artificial lights. And remember to shoot in landscape for YouTube videos and portrait for Reels and Stories. Even with advanced smartphones like the iPhone 16 Pro Max or S25 Edge, external microphones make a huge difference in audio clarity. It’s all about making the most of what you have! Finally, let’s talk about the editing part of the equation, which often happens on my MacBook Pro using video editing software like DaVinci Resolve. While my laptop is my main hub for larger projects, I've also learned the value of mobile editing apps like CapCut or InShot for quick Reels or Stories. Having an external hard drive is also a non-negotiable for me. I used to fill up my laptop's storage quickly with 4K video files, but moving everything to an external hard drive keeps my MacBook Pro running fast and my project files organized. It's a lifesaver for managing large volumes of footage. My journey has taught me that the best setup isn't about having the most expensive gear, but about having the right gear for your workflow and knowing how to use it effectively.
