BOO!! I wanna Quit so BAD!

2024/10/1 Edited to

... Read moreOh my gosh, I totally get this feeling! I've been there so many times, staring at a canvas or a sketch, feeling like I've ruined it beyond repair. It probably started out like your 'BOOL ART' piece, feeling like a 'masterpiece' in the making, maybe just needing 'a background,' as you initially thought. But then, BAM! Suddenly, it's not what you envisioned, and all you want to do is quit. Just last month, I was working on a landscape painting. I had this gorgeous idea, and the initial 'paint' layers looked fantastic. I even thought, 'This is going to be amazing!' But then I got to the details, and everything just felt... wrong. The colors didn't blend, the perspective was off, and I kept thinking, 'Why did I even start this?' It went from 'masterpiece' potential to 'end result' despair in a flash. My heart goes out to you because I know how frustrating it can be when your creative flow hits a brick wall. My absolute first tip, and it sounds simple, is to *walk away*. Seriously, put it face down, cover it up, or just leave the room. Give yourself a few hours, a day, or even a week. When you come back, you'll often see it with fresh eyes. That 'end result' might not be as bad as you thought, or you'll suddenly spot the solution. It's amazing what a little distance can do for perspective. Sometimes, the overwhelm comes from looking at the whole thing. If it's a complex piece, try to identify one small, manageable thing you can do. Maybe it's just fixing one tiny section, or trying a new color swatch on a separate paper. Don't think about the entire 'background' if that's what's daunting; just focus on one corner. Breaking it down into micro-tasks can make the mountain feel like a molehill. Embrace the 'ugly stage'! Every artist I know goes through an 'ugly stage' with their work. It's that point where things look messy and unfinished, and you question everything. Remember your initial thought, 'It came out so lovely all it needs is a background'? Sometimes, pushing through that ugly stage is exactly what's needed for it to become a true 'masterpiece' again. It's part of the journey, and often, the most transformative part. If you're really stuck, try a small experimental piece using similar colors or techniques. No pressure, just play. This can reignite your creativity without the immense pressure of 'fixing' the original piece. Sometimes, the 'problem' is just a lack of confidence or a need to try a slightly different 'paint' application. It's like a warm-up exercise for your creative brain. And just like you, reaching out and asking for help is incredibly brave and smart! Sometimes another pair of eyes can offer a perspective you never considered. A fellow artist might see a simple fix for that 'background' or a way to enhance the 'paint' that you're just too close to see. After all, it's still 'ART,' right? Finally, remember that not every piece needs to be perfect. Sometimes, the 'end result' isn't what we hoped, and that's okay. We learn from every attempt, even the ones we want to quit. Don't let one challenging piece make you forget why you love creating 'BOOL ART' or any art in the first place! Keep creating, even through the tough moments. You've got this!
