TODAYS POLL: Fast Food Chain Style

... Read moreIt's so interesting to see everyone's picks for Chipotle, Qdoba, and Moes! When I first started going to these places, I always wondered, 'Is Chipotle really fast food?' It feels a bit different than your typical drive-thru, right? That's where the term 'fast-casual' comes in, and it perfectly describes these spots. Fast food, generally, is all about speed and convenience, often with pre-made or quickly assembled items. Think burgers, fries, and super-quick service. Fast-casual, on the other hand, aims to bridge the gap between fast food and traditional sit-down restaurants. You get higher-quality ingredients, often customizable meals like your perfect burrito bowl or salad bowl, and usually a slightly more upscale dining environment than a typical fast food joint. Yet, you still order at a counter and get your food pretty quickly. For me, that's the sweet spot! I love that I can customize my order at Chipotle, Qdoba, or Moes. Whether I'm craving a massive foil-wrapped burrito packed with barbacoa and extra rice, or a lighter taco salad with fresh salsa and lots of guacamole, these places deliver. Each chain definitely has its own vibe and loyal following. For example, I know a lot of my friends swear by Qdoba specifically for their amazing queso, which they include for free! Others are all about Moes for the 'Welcome to Moes!' greeting and their famous salsa bar. And then there's Chipotle, often lauded for its fresh, simple ingredients and focus on sustainability. Personally, I find myself going back and forth depending on my mood – sometimes I want that bold, spicy kick, other times I'm just after a classic, satisfying burrito. It’s also fascinating how preferences can vary so much, not just person-to-person, but even regionally! While the original poll might not focus on chicken tenders, I've noticed how certain chains seem to have a stronger presence or a more passionate fanbase in different areas, even for Mexican fast-casual. For instance, in some cities, Chipotle seems to be on every corner, while in others, Qdoba is the dominant player. It might come down to local availability, long-standing customer loyalty, or even specific menu items that resonate more with the local palate. It makes you wonder what makes a chain truly 'local' in people's hearts, even if it's a national brand. I've heard stories of people moving and desperately missing their preferred chain because it just isn't the same or isn't available where they are now. What's your take? Does your favorite chain dominate where you live, or is it a hidden gem you have to seek out?
