Here’s what not to do 🥴😭
This was my first time making homemade cinnamon rolls, and let me tell y’all, this is a cautionary tale. Before starting, please make sure all of your ingredients are not expired. The yeast I had expired in 2024 (I know😭) so my rolls didn’t rise. Also, please cut them around the same size, I had three giant ones that I had to cut again. On the bright side, they were very good. Overall, I will say that I enjoyed the process and will definitely try again. #food
Baking homemade cinnamon rolls can be a delightful but sometimes tricky experience, especially for first-timers. One crucial lesson I learned is the importance of using fresh yeast. Even if your yeast expires in 2024, improper storage conditions or exposure to moisture can reduce its effectiveness, causing your dough not to rise. To avoid this, always store yeast in a cool, dry place and test its freshness by mixing a small amount with warm water and a pinch of sugar—if it bubbles within 10 minutes, it’s still active. Another tip is consistency in portion size. When cutting your cinnamon rolls, try to keep them as uniformly sized as possible to ensure even baking. Uneven rolls can lead to some being undercooked while others are overdone. Using a sharp knife or dental floss can help in cutting rolls cleanly and evenly. During the rolling process, keeping the dough at a manageable temperature can make the task easier. If the dough becomes too sticky or warm, refrigerate it for 10–15 minutes to firm up. This also helps maintain the shape of the rolls. Personally, despite some early mistakes, I found making cinnamon rolls to be immensely rewarding. The aromas filling the kitchen and the warm, sweet taste of freshly baked rolls cannot be beat. Experimenting with fillings like brown sugar, cinnamon, or even adding nuts or raisins can customize your rolls to your preference. Lastly, don’t be discouraged by initial setbacks. Baking is as much about learning as it is about the final product. Each attempt improves your skill and understanding, making the next batch even better. So keep trying, enjoy the process, and savor the delicious results of your homemade cinnamon rolls!
