Anyone Else's parents wake up and decide if they wanna be nice to you or be an a

My mom does this at least once or twice a week where she randomly just starts acting like a goddamm toddler. She freaks out about the tiniest things like the counter being dirty and she throws "temper tantrums" where she yells and screams at me about whatever she's mad at me about and then later on acts like nothing happened. She doesn't apologize to me or anything. Just curious if anyone else's parents do this.

From my personal experience, these episodes often stem from underlying stress or unresolved issues that manifest in sudden outbursts over seemingly small triggers, like a messy counter. It's important to recognize that such behavior is not your fault, even when it feels like you’re being blamed unfairly. One approach that helped me cope was setting clear emotional boundaries. For example, when a tantrum begins, I give myself permission to take a step back, whether that means leaving the room briefly or practicing deep breathing to stay calm. This helps me avoid escalating the situation and protects my own mental health. Communication is key, though it can be tough when the parent refuses to apologize or acknowledge their behavior later. When things are calm, I try to gently share how their outbursts affect me, focusing on 'I' statements like 'I feel hurt when…' to avoid triggering defensiveness. Sometimes, keeping a journal of these incidents can also help in understanding patterns and preparing for discussions. It's also beneficial to seek support outside the family, whether through friends, counseling, or support groups, to process your feelings and gain perspective. Remember, coping with parental temper tantrums and mood swings is a shared experience for many, so finding community can make you feel less alone. Ultimately, prioritizing your emotional well-being while navigating these complex family dynamics requires patience, self-care, and sometimes professional guidance. You're not alone, and learning healthy coping strategies can improve your day-to-day life amidst the unpredictability.
