TP is about to become your second home… so before school starts, here’s your starter handbook to help you survive (and actually thrive) over the next 3 years 🎓
📍 Finding your way around
Leave the house early. Between peak-hour crowds and the size of campus, you’ll need time to not get lost 😭

🧑🤝🧑 Make friends early
These people might end up being your group project teammates… and trust, it’s way easier working with friends than strangers
⏰ Don’t skip class
It’s not just about attendance. Lecturers drop extra tips that aren’t on the lesson slides 👀

You can’t clutch everything last minute. Start early or your GPA will humble you real quick 😮💨
... Read moreStarting polytechnic can be overwhelming, especially with the vast campus and the new academic expectations at Temasek Polytechnic. One key insight I learned early on is to always leave your house at least 15 minutes earlier than planned during your first weeks. This extra time inevitably helps you avoid stress caused by getting lost amidst the large campus and peak-hour crowds.
Throughout my first semester, I found that keeping a close eye on my Outlook email and Microsoft Teams was vital. Important updates, assignment announcements, and changes in schedules are usually communicated through these platforms. Missing an email can set you back more than you realize.
Making friends early isn’t just about socializing; it’s a strategic move. Friends become project teammates, study partners, and a support system. Collaborating with people you know well significantly eases group work and helps in managing coursework effectively.
Another important aspect is to never skip classes. Attendance is often seen as just a requirement, but lecturers share valuable tips and insights during lessons that are not found in slides or textbooks. These nuggets of information have been invaluable to me in understanding the subjects deeper and performing well in exams.
Finally, understand that maintaining a good GPA is a continuous process rather than a last-minute effort. Starting your assignments and revision early, managing time well, and being consistent in your studies will prevent the GPA from becoming a stressful challenge during exam periods. Remember, the GPA grind starts on day one, and projects typically cannot be rushed in a single day.
Embracing these practices not only helps you survive the polytechnic experience but truly thrive, preparing you well for both academic success and personal growth over the course of your studies at Temasek Polytechnic.
