Happy National Day, Singapore 🇸🇬❤️!

From blurry fireworks videos to random neighbourhood cats and food pics, somehow our camera rolls all end up looking the same 📸.

How many did we get right? Which Singapore photo do you think everyone has 👀?

... Read moreEvery National Day, I find myself scrolling through my camera roll and noticing the common themes that many Singaporeans capture year after year. It's almost like a collective photo diary that reflects how we celebrate and live in this vibrant city-state. One category that stands out is the patriotic imagery: fireworks lighting up the night sky, red and white flags adorning HDB blocks, and people dressed in national colors. These photos truly convey the festive spirit and pride that define August 9th in Singapore. I usually try to take multiple shots of the fireworks, although many end up blurry—something I’m sure many locals can relate to! Then, there are the photos of iconic landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay with its futuristic Supertrees, the majestic Merlion, and the mesmerizing Rain Vortex at Jewel Changi Airport. These spots are popular, not just for tourists but for residents too, who like to capture these beautiful places as a reminder of home and pride. Of course, no Singapore camera roll is complete without food pictures. From humble hawker stalls serving up Hainanese chicken rice and laksa to exquisite Michelin-starred restaurants, food is a major part of Singaporean identity. I love snapping my meals before eating—a habit many locals share—turning the camera roll into a scrumptious collection. Finally, there are those candid shots of everyday life: cats wandering around HDB estates, striking skies with sunrise or rainbows, and even random snapshots from photobooths or a quick selfie with friends. These seemingly ordinary pictures collectively tell the story of Singapore life beyond the celebrations. In essence, a Singaporean camera roll on National Day is a beautiful mix of celebration, culture, and daily realities. It’s a reminder that while the landmarks and fireworks are iconic, it’s the everyday moments that truly capture the spirit of the nation. This National Day, try looking back at your photos and see which moments from the list resonate with you the most—it’s a fun way to connect with what makes Singapore unique.
