Imagine rapunzel’s search bar being “long hair cheugy” 🥀 #longhair #haircare #protectivehairstyle #hairstyles #braid
Okay, so who else feels like owning super long hair is a constant battle against the 'cheugy' label? Seriously, imagine Rapunzel's search bar being 'long hair cheugy' – I actually laughed out loud when I thought of that! But honestly, after growing my hair to an epic 44 inches, I'm determined to show that long hair, especially when cared for properly and styled creatively, is anything but. This is Day 2 of my personal challenge to prove it, and today's star is the beautiful fishtail braid. Achieving and maintaining this kind of length takes dedication, not just in styling but in daily care. For starters, I always sleep with a silk bonnet. This is a non-negotiable for me! It dramatically reduces friction, which means less breakage and helps maintain that silky shine. When I wake up, I brush gently, always starting from the ends and working my way up, using a wide-tooth comb or a soft-bristle brush. This prevents tangles from turning into tears and keeps my length check strong. The fishtail braid is genuinely one of the easiest braids I think exists, despite its intricate appearance. It’s perfect for a protective hairstyle day. You essentially divide your hair into two main sections. Then, you take a small piece of hair from the outer edge of one section and cross it over to join the inner side of the other section. You repeat this from the other side, continuously adding a small piece from one side to the other. The key is to keep the sections small and consistent for that classic, detailed fishtail look. It's mesmerizing to watch come together, and it holds beautifully all day. Now, for my secret hack for those 'Miley Cyrus arms' – because yes, braiding 44 inches of hair is a workout! Once the braid is almost done, I take a break each foot or so to gently pull out a bit of hair from the woven sections. This creates a softer, fuller, more bohemian look that instantly elevates the braid from 'neat' to 'effortlessly chic.' It also makes the braid appear thicker and more voluminous, which is awesome. Just be careful not to pull too much, or it'll unravel! Beyond just braiding, nurturing such long hair involves a holistic approach. I focus on scalp health with regular massages and use leave-in conditioners to keep the ends hydrated. Trims are essential, even if you’re growing it out; just a tiny dust of the ends every few months prevents split ends from traveling up and ruining your length. And of course, limiting heat styling is crucial. I often let my hair air dry or use low heat settings when I absolutely have to. What should I do next for my hair? I'm always looking for new ideas, especially since I need to get my nails done soon, so I'll be feeling extra pampered! Vote if you think my long hair is cheugy or not in the comments, I'm genuinely curious to hear what you guys think!
