Soft Christmas Peppermints (Old-Fashioned Butter Mints!)

These little peppermint pillows take me straight back to Christmas gatherings at my grandma’s house , the kind where a glass dish full of soft butter mints always sat beside the fudge and sugar cookies. Lila loves helping twist the red and white ropes together, and honestly, that swirl of color feels like the holidays in our hands. Sweet, minty, melt-in-your-mouth perfection , the kind of candy that makes every guest smile.

Ingredients (Makes ~100 mints):

½ cup butter, room temperature

4 cups powdered sugar

2 tbsp heavy whipping cream

Âź tsp peppermint extract (adjust to taste)

Red gel food coloring

Directions:

Prepare your workspace with parchment or wax paper. Keep extra powdered sugar nearby for dusting.

Beat the softened butter until fluffy.

Add cream, powdered sugar, and peppermint extract; mix until a firm, workable dough forms.

Divide dough into two portions: leave ž white, color Ÿ red.

Roll each color into ropes. Place a thinner red rope beside a thicker white rope.

Twist together gently, then roll between your palms to smooth and form a candy rope.

Lay the twisted ropes on parchment and let them dry for 1–2 hours.

Once slightly dry, cut into bite-sized pieces with a pizza cutter.

Let dry completely for 24 hours, then store in an airtight container.
