People always think F&B owner very rich…
People always think F&B owner very rich… 💰😎
“Wah business good ah?”
“Confirm making big money!”
“Everyday eat good food somemore!”
Reality:
Bank account: 😭
Sleep: ❌
Stress level: 📈📈📈
People see me: Successful boss
But actually me:
Morning – go market bargain 50 cents 🦐
Afternoon – reply supplier, fix equipment, send delivery 📦
Evening – handle customer feedback with smile 😅
Night – calculate numbers until headache 🤯
Friends: “You free or not?”
Me: “Free? I only free WiFi.”
They think I drive luxury…
But I drive:
Supplier van 🚚
GrabFood deadline 🛵
And my own anxiety 🫠
F&B owner not rich…
Just rich in:
Problems 😆
Responsibilities 💼
And love for what we do ❤️
But still… tomorrow open shop again. Because this is passion… and also because rent is coming. 🥲

Running a food and beverage (F&B) business is often glamorized, with many assuming that owners live a lavish and stress-free lifestyle. However, from my own experience and conversations with fellow restaurant owners, the reality is far different. Most F&B owners juggle countless daily tasks—from negotiating prices at markets to managing deliveries and handling customer service issues—all while battling financial pressures. One important aspect often overlooked is the physical and emotional toll the business takes. Early mornings at the market bargaining for the freshest ingredients at the best price can be exhausting. The afternoons are filled with communicating with suppliers, fixing equipment breakdowns, and ensuring timely deliveries. Evenings require patience and a friendly demeanor to address customer feedback, no matter how challenging. Late into the night, many owners crunch numbers, analyzing sales and expenses, frequently ending up with headaches and little rest. This cycle creates high stress levels that aren’t visible to outsiders. The assumption that owners drive luxury cars and live comfortably couldn’t be further from the truth. Many rely on utilitarian vehicles such as supplier vans or delivery scooters to meet tight deadlines and run errands. The anxiety of ensuring the business survives amid rent payments and rising costs is a constant companion. Yet, despite these hardships, many owners remain deeply passionate about their work. Their love for food, creativity in crafting menus, and commitment to customer satisfaction drive them forward. It’s this passion that fuels daily operations, even when financial rewards are slim. The customer-facing side of the business often masks the reality behind the scenes. While guests may see a successful owner, what they don’t see is the owner acting as a repair technician, clerk, chef, marketing planner, and delivery driver all rolled into one. The image of luxury fades, revealing a story of resilience, responsibility, and relentless dedication. For anyone considering entering the F&B industry, it is vital to understand these realities. Success rarely comes overnight and requires a strong mental and physical stamina. Managing an F&B outlet means wearing many hats, dealing with unexpected challenges, and sometimes sacrificing personal time and comfort. Sharing these real-life experiences can help cultivate empathy among customers and aspiring entrepreneurs alike. It also highlights that passion and love for the craft often outweigh immediate financial gain. Ultimately, behind the scenes of every restaurant or café is an owner working tirelessly to keep the dream alive despite the challenges.
