My Third Trimester Experience

For my first pregnancy I experienced a lot!

Here are some of my experiences during my third trimester:

Towards the end I started to experience a lot of swelling my legs and my feet were huge! They didn’t really hurt but it was uncomfortable to do things around the house.

I had a lot of pain under my belly, I believed it was round ligament pain. So painful!

Heartburns I kid you not was for everything I ate, healthy or not!

My breast got huge! My areola got dark!

I couldn’t sleep because I was uncomfortable and the heartburn at night kept me awake.

My hair was beautiful 🤩 so long and thick!

Lastly, I had to go potty what felt like every 5 minutes 😅

Beyond the initial shock of widespread swelling – especially around 37 weeks, my feet looked like balloons! – I learned a lot about managing these unexpected changes. I found that elevating my legs whenever possible, staying hydrated, and avoiding long periods of standing really made a difference. It wasn't just about comfort; it helped ease the pressure in my abdomen too. The heartburn, which felt like a constant companion around 38 weeks, was another story. It wasn't just after spicy food; even plain water seemed to set it off sometimes! I tried everything from small, frequent meals to avoiding late-night snacks and sleeping slightly elevated. Tums became my best friend! What really surprised me was how much it impacted my sleep, making those already uncomfortable nights even tougher. Then there was the abdominal discomfort. That sharp, pulling sensation, which I later learned was likely round ligament pain, was intense. It often made me instinctively hold my belly, seeking some relief or support. It felt like my body was stretching to its absolute limits! Gentle movements, a supportive belly band, and warm baths offered some temporary comfort. It's amazing how much you learn to listen to your body and find little ways to cope when you're 9 months pregnant. My breasts also underwent significant changes during this time, getting much larger and experiencing areola darkening, which was a clear sign my body was preparing for what was to come. It was a visual reminder of the incredible process unfolding. Sleep was a luxury I often missed. Between the heartburn, the frequent trips to the potty – which felt like every five minutes – and just general discomfort, finding a comfortable position was a nightly challenge. I experimented with various pillow arrangements, creating a nest that offered some support. It made me appreciate every single hour of rest I managed to get. One thing I kept wondering about was when the baby would 'drop' and what that meant for labor. While it didn't happen for me until much closer to my due date, hearing other moms' experiences about how long after baby dropped they went into labor was fascinating. It really highlighted how unique every pregnancy journey is. It's also a time when you start thinking more concretely about the hospital bag and what to expect during delivery. My partner was incredibly supportive throughout, and those moments of holding hands and sharing worries made such a difference. It truly is a journey you share as a couple. This whole experience made me realize the profound changes a woman's body goes through, not just physically, but emotionally as well, preparing for the beautiful arrival ahead.

I have so much belly pain! I was worried something was actually wrong because I fell a couple weeks ago. Heartburn is so unbearable. I literally throw up on my side while laying down. Sleeping doesn’t exist. Oh, and I can’t shave down there because I can’t see anything. I can’t get up out of bed on my own.
