My Roadtrip Activity Essentials
We just had a 6 hour road trip and these items were a hit. We brought my son’s tablet and he didn’t need it at all!!!
The Busy Book is great for learning and can even be use for home schooling.
Search and Find is a fun activity that helps with identifying items on the list and what’s great is that each page is a different theme.
The Matching game is one we can all play in the car and take turns! It comes with 5 two sided pages so they are learning as well!

I was so thrilled to share our recent road trip success story, especially since we managed a 6-hour journey completely screen-free for our little one! It truly changed the entire dynamic of the trip for the better. If you're like me, constantly looking for ways to keep kids engaged without relying on tablets, then you know the struggle is real. But trust me, with a little planning and the right tools, it's absolutely achievable and so rewarding! After our last adventure, I've gathered even more tips and tricks to make car trips enjoyable for everyone. One thing I learned is that variety is key. Even the best activity can lose its luster if used non-stop. I love rotating activities every hour or so to keep things fresh. This means having a good system for storage. That black car organizer I packed was a lifesaver – not just for the activity books but also for a tissue dispenser, small snacks, and even a trash bag. Keeping everything within easy reach and organized prevents endless digging and frustration for both kids and parents. Beyond the amazing Busy Books (we love the 'Human Body' one and anything with a 'Montessori Method' approach for learning!), Search and Find cards (the dinosaur and carnival themes are big hits!), and the classic memory matching games, there are so many other budget-friendly options. For example, a simple drawing pad and a small set of colored pencils or crayons can provide hours of creative fun. We often bring a small whiteboard with dry-erase markers for tic-tac-toe or drawing challenges. Audiobooks are another fantastic way to entertain kids on long drives, especially for the 3+ years crowd mentioned on some of our items. They can transport imaginations without needing visual stimulation, which is perfect when they need a break from focusing on small objects. Local libraries often have great selections you can download for free! Don't forget the power of classic car games! "I Spy" is always a winner, and for slightly older kids, the license plate game or car color counting can keep them occupied. These require no extra items, just observation and imagination. And let's be honest, no road trip with kids is complete without snacks! I pre-pack individual portions of healthy, less-messy snacks like fruit slices, crackers, and cheese sticks. A spill-proof water bottle is also non-negotiable. Comfort items like a favorite small blanket or a neck pillow can also make a huge difference, especially during nap times or when they just need to snuggle up. Finally, remember that kids, especially younger ones, have limited attention spans. Building in short breaks at rest stops for them to stretch their legs and burn off some energy can prevent meltdowns and reset their mood for the next leg of the journey. It's not just about the activities in the car, but the overall journey experience. Planning for stops, even quick ones, makes a world of difference. By mixing educational items like the Busy Book with fun matching games, creative outlets, and classic car games, you can truly create a happy, screen-free travel environment. Our last trip proved it's possible to have a peaceful and engaging journey, making memories without a single screen in sight!
