Reducing sugar in banana bread doesn’t mean sacrificing flavor or texture. I found that using very ripe bananas is a great way to keep the sweetness natural, making it possible to cut down on added sugar significantly. For example, this recipe uses only 45g of sugar instead of the usual 80g, yet the sweetness is balanced and satisfying. Adding ingredients like baking powder and baking soda together helps ensure a perfect rise and fluffy texture. The baking powder adds a steady lift while the baking soda reacts with the acidic bananas to create lightness, making the bread tender and moist. For a lower-calorie or allergy-friendly option, almond flour could be substituted for all-purpose flour, though it might change the texture slightly. Also, adding nuts can create a delightful low sugar banana nut bread variation, boosting flavor and crunch without extra sugar. Personally, I recommend creaming the butter and sugar well, then incorporating eggs slowly to keep the batter light. Using ground cinnamon adds a warm aroma and subtle spice, enhancing the natural banana flavor while keeping the recipe simple and family-friendly. This banana bread is perfect for weight watchers or anyone looking for less sweet snacks without giving up taste. Baking it at 185°C for about 35 minutes yields a golden crust with a soft inside. You can enjoy this anytime — as a wholesome breakfast or a comforting snack.
