Crown of Thorns
This was a tiny plant that was gifted to me 2 years ago. It's doing great now.
The Crown of Thorns (Euphorbia milii) is a popular succulent known for its striking thorny stems and bright, colorful flowers. Originating from Madagascar, this plant is often chosen for its drought tolerance and ability to bloom throughout the year with proper care. When caring for a Crown of Thorns, it’s important to provide plenty of bright, indirect sunlight; they flourish best in such light conditions and can even tolerate some direct sunlight. Watering should be moderate — allow the soil to dry out between waterings since overwatering can lead to root rot. A well-draining potting mix designed for succulents is ideal to prevent excess moisture retention. Additionally, Crown of Thorns prefers warm temperatures, typically between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C), and does not tolerate frost. Fertilizing can enhance blooming; use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the growing season (spring and summer). Regular pruning of spindly stems encourages bushier growth and more flowers. Be cautious handling the plant as its sap can be irritating to skin and eyes. With patience and proper attention, even a tiny gifted Crown of Thorns can grow into a vibrant and attractive addition to your home garden or indoor plant collection. Its resilience and unique beauty make it a rewarding plant to nurture and watch flourish over time.
