April Book Recap

April said “read more” and I said BET 😌📚

24 books. 6,982 pages. And somehow I still had time for chaos.

Average rating: 4.02 ⭐ (we’re healing… but not fully)

Average length: 290 pages (quick reads = dangerous confidence)

This month was basically:

✨ Me falling in love

✨ Me side-eyeing plot twists

✨ Me rating books 5⭐ like Oprah: “YOU get a star, YOU get a star—”

Top tier obsession list:

🔥 The Scammer

🔥 Priest

🔥 Raz El

🔥 Caine

🔥 Off the Clock

🔥 Breaking Bailey’s Rules

(yeah… I was booked AND busy)

But let’s talk about the struggle:

Some of these books really tried me… 3⭐ behavior, questionable decisions, and characters I wanted to fight in real life 😭

Overall verdict:

April = drama, spice, betrayal, and me minding everybody else’s fictional business.

May… be kind to me. Or at least entertaining 🤭📖

... Read moreApril was a whirlwind month for my reading journey, taking me through a turbulent mix of emotions and stories that kept me hooked. One thing I noticed was how the shorter average book length of 290 pages invited quick yet immersive reading sessions, which sometimes led to dangerous overconfidence in choosing my next book. I found myself eagerly jumping from one title to the next, especially when I stumbled on page-turners like "The Scammer" and "Breaking Bailey's Rules" — both of which earned top marks in my personal rating scale. However, not every book was an easy ride. Some characters showed behavior that tested my patience, and their questionable decisions sparked quite a bit of internal debate. That’s part of the joy in reading for me: engaging with characters who are flawed or difficult makes the stories feel more real and the drama more intense. Plus, it gave me plenty to think about after each book—how would I have handled similar situations, and what lessons could I take from their experiences? Another highlight was the emotional rollercoaster that came with plot twists. From unexpected betrayals to surprising alliances, these elements added much-needed spice and kept my excitement high throughout April. I found myself side-eyeing some twists, yet appreciating the storytelling craft that can make flaws and conflict compelling rather than frustrating. Reflecting on the month, I also enjoyed the community aspect of sharing book recommendations and thoughts with fellow readers. Hashtags like #aprilreads and #lemon8bookclub helped me connect with others who were navigating their own reading stacks. It’s a reminder that while the characters and stories belong to the authors, the experience of reading is wonderfully communal. These shared experiences enhance the enjoyment and give context to my opinions. Going forward into May, my approach will involve balancing quick reads with some longer, deeper dives to maintain that balance of entertainment and growth. Whether it’s falling in love with new stories or managing chaotic character journeys, I’m ready for whatever books bring next—and I hope they continue to challenge and delight me just as April did.
