... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so thrilled you're checking out my art. As you might know from my first post, this piece is really special to me, and I wanted to dive a little deeper into the process behind it. When I started brainstorming ideas for my very first submission here on Lemon8, I knew I wanted to create something truly unique that showcased my love for detailed colored pencil drawing. My inspiration for this particular piece, featuring the humanoid figure with antlers and that vibrant floral arrangement, actually came from a dream I had! I was captivated by the image of exposed skeletal elements intertwined with blooming life, symbolizing the cycle of nature and inner strength. I spent hours sketching different poses before settling on this meditative pose, which I felt perfectly conveyed a sense of calm and introspection. It’s incredible how much emotion and story you can pack into a single visual! The choice of colored pencils was deliberate. I just adore the rich, blendable pigments and the control they offer for intricate details. For instance, getting the texture right on the antlers and making the red scarf stand out against the more muted tones was a delightful challenge. I used a mix of brands, layering thin strokes to build up the depth and luminosity you see. It’s amazing how a good set of colored pencils can bring a vision to life, piece by painstaking piece. I often find myself getting lost in the minute details, making sure every petal and bone fragment is just right. A lot of you have asked about my approach to drawing unique characters. For this humanoid figure, I really focused on blending organic and ethereal elements. The floral arrangement isn't just decorative; it's an extension of the character's spirit, almost like a crown of natural beauty. And yes, those skeletal details were quite fun to render – adding a touch of the macabre but in a very harmonious way with the blooming flowers. I think combining contrasting elements really makes the artwork pop and encourages viewers to look closer. I'm a firm believer in creating art that comes from the heart, and that's why I'm proud to say this is a #noAI piece. Every line, every shade, every blend is purely my own effort and passion. It's a true #drawing from the soul. For my fellow artists out there, don't be afraid to experiment with your mediums. #ColouredPencils are incredibly versatile, and you can achieve so much detail and vibrancy with them. Try pushing the boundaries of what you think pencils can do! When I create a colored pencil drawing like this, I always start with a light sketch, then slowly build up the colors. It’s a patient process, but seeing the layers come together is incredibly rewarding. I love how the light catches the different textures, from the smoothness of the scarf to the rougher feel of the antlers. Each element tells a part of the story I wanted to convey – a blend of fragility and resilience, natural beauty and a hint of the mystical. I hope this little peek behind the curtain gives you a better appreciation for the artwork. Finding inspiration can be tough sometimes, but I've found that keeping a sketchbook handy for quick ideas and actively observing the world around me helps immensely. What are your favorite elements in this drawing? Let me know in the comments, and stay tuned for more of my scribbles! Happy creating!
