Movies that stuck with me

In no particular order AT ALL…

• The Secret Life of Bees ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - oh, man. This movie… I watched this when I was 14 for the first time and was immediately enamored. The cast, the characters, the story… All of it came together so seamlessly and created something truly unique and beautiful.

• Hounddog ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this one CERTAINLY isn’t for everyone. It does contain a lot of mature material and definitely a few disturbing scenes, but the acting and story were both phenomenal, and this one definitely sticks with me. WARNING: involves the SA of a minor.

• Girl, Interrupted ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I’m sure most of you have seen this, but if not, you absolutely should. This is another that definitely isn’t everyone’s taste, but if you like films about MH, depression, BPD, etc. and you love good acting, this one’s for you. Angelina Jolie is truly incredible in this. WARNING: themes of depression, BPD, and $uicide.

• Uptown Girls ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - this one is absolutely a favorite of mine. I watched this for the first time at around the age Ray (one of the two main characters) is supposed to be. I will admit it may have taught me some bratty behavior, but as an adult I can truly appreciate it for what it was. Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning are FLAWLESS in this.

• The Strangers ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - oof. I won’t lie… at 14, this scared the 💩 out of me. Even as an adult - 29 years old, to be exact - it still isn’t one I can watch alone at night, for sure. If you love horror and you’re looking for a good one for a movie night, go for this!

• The Lodge ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - again, definitely not for everyone. 😅 This one is dark and disturbing, but so well-acted and has incredible storytelling. Riley Keough is incredible. WARNING: a character does commit $uicide.

• Revolutionary Road ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Leo and Kate reunite in this, and boy, is it Oscar-worthy. They play a couple in the 1950s whose relationship is falling apart, and it’s so well-acted that you can genuinely feel the couple’s anguish. Absolutely recommend. WARNING: involves stillbirth, abort¡on, and m!scarriage.

• Labor Day ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - yet another Kate Winslet film, and not one you want to miss. This is about an escaped convict who persuades a single mother to allow him into her home over Labor Day weekend. Everyone involved is great and the storyline is very unique.

• Titanic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - yes, ANOTHER Kate film, but this one is an obvious classic and I’m pretty sure everyone and their mom have seen it. I may have only been 2 when it came out, but I feel like I’ve been watching it my entire life. Incredible performances by EVERYONE involved, beautiful cinematography, gut-wrenching reenactment of the story of the Titanic… It’s everything.
