Externship experience & Herzing Review 🩺📚

Okay you guys I couldn’t get any footage for externship of course it was day one I was getting a feel of everything. Honestly it’s not bad at all but this was only day one.

Some of the things I got to do were

- Strep Test

- Covid testing

- Urinalysis

- STD testing

- Vitals

- Charting

it’s more to learn and more to do I’m excited for tomorrow. NOW LETS GET INTO THIS SCHOOL OF MINE

#HerzingUniversity CCMA program is not so bad there’s pros and cons always in ever school I would say Herzing I kind of self paces but not really. It’s a lot to do it little time but you have a lot of time if it makes sense. The instructors are the best and always willing to help in anyway

The cons are

- No hands on experience really until externship I feel something’s should’ve been practiced on real people and not Injecta pads

- harder getting ahold to instructors for online is hard to ge ahold of

- you have to find your own proctor to go over skills and most know what you’re doing before going. I feel it should not only be assessed it taught for those who learn better in person and hands on.

Pros

- help with Job search

- job fairs monthly

- high graduation rate / pass rate

- strictly online course (no reason you should be failing all answers are in front of you)

- workload isn’t too much it’s manageable )I passed all my courses with As & Bs)

- there’s a great Nursing Program ( chamberlain still takes the win but Herzing is right next to them in my opinion)

- you’re not alone even though I had to find my own externship site my school sent me a list of places previous students went too so I can go and give any of those options a try.

- since it’s online you get more time with family , more time with friends, have more study time , more time for whatever it is you need ! Due dates are Wednesday & Sunday !

Herzing does prepare you for your NHA exam and does give you so many study options. Also host job fairs often to help future graduates and students to find jobs in their career path. It comes in handy being a Herzing student.

I’ll see yall for day 2 or would you guys want weekly update? DAILY OR WEEKLY? I’m down 🥰 #externship #medicalassistantlife #medicalassistant #Lemon8Diary

... Read moreHey everyone! Following up on my initial thoughts after Day 1 of externship and my Herzing University Medical Assistant program review, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into what really makes this program tick and how to navigate it successfully. First, let's talk about the online learning environment. One of the biggest advantages, as I mentioned, is the flexibility – more time for family, friends, and studies. But this flexibility comes with responsibility. Because it’s largely self-paced, you really have to stay on top of your assignments. Those Wednesday and Sunday deadlines creep up fast! My advice: create a strict study schedule and stick to it. Treat your online classes like a physical campus commitment. It’s easy to procrastinate when everything is "in front of you," but consistent effort is key to maintaining those As and Bs. Regarding the NHA exam, Herzing truly does a great job with preparation. They provide a wealth of study options, from practice tests to review materials. Don’t just skim; actively engage with the material. Review the areas you struggled with in practice exams, and don't be afraid to reach out to instructors for clarification, even if they're a bit harder to get a hold of online. Persistence pays off! From what I've heard from other students, this level of exam prep isn't unique to the Medical Assistant program; it extends to other certifications and skills programs like Pharmacy Technician or Dental Assistant. It seems to be a strong point across Herzing's healthcare career pathways. Now, about the "no hands-on experience until externship" con. This is probably the biggest hurdle for visual and kinesthetic learners. My workaround involved watching countless YouTube videos of medical assistant procedures, practicing on family members (gently, of course, for things like vital signs), and ensuring I thoroughly understood the theory behind each skill before needing to perform it. For skills requiring a proctor, like phlebotomy or injections, it’s crucial to proactively find someone willing to assess you. I found that local clinics or even some former nurses I knew were often open to helping out for a short session. This hands-on gap is something to seriously consider, especially if you're looking at programs like Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Respiratory Therapy, where practical skills are paramount. The job search assistance is another huge benefit. The monthly job fairs are fantastic opportunities to network and see what's out there. They also sent me a list of previous externship sites, which was a lifesaver when it came to finding my placement. It shows that even though it's an online school, they're truly invested in their students' post-graduation success. This kind of support makes a big difference when you're transitioning from student to professional, whether you're pursuing a Medical Assistant, Dental Assistant, or even a different healthcare role. Overall, my Herzing University review remains positive, especially for those who are disciplined and self-motivated. It’s not without its challenges, particularly for those who thrive on in-person instruction, but the support systems for job placement and exam preparation are robust. If you're evaluating the education company Herzing for healthcare programs, remember that active engagement and self-advocacy are your best tools for success. I hope this deeper dive helps anyone considering their programs!
