Dosage Calculations pediatrics
I’ve gotten some comments about pediatric dosage calculations. I’m here to break the example down from the picture above.
When think of medications and dosing a pediatric patient we must first know their weight and then we must go back to the metric table and convert if needed. For every 1kg it equals to 2.2lbs.
The patient in the example is 22lbs so we now will divide 22lbs/ 2.2lbs and will then get 10kg. That’s the first step.
The formula will always be the same D/H x Q
Dose/ On hand x Quantity.
Once we’re done converting it’s now time to break it down more.
From the example the doctor has order 20mg/kg/day
On hands there’s 200mg/5mL
20mg x 10kg
Cancel out the measurements and you get 20x10=200
200/200x5mL=5 mL
The label also reads how much to give but it’s also important know how to calculate the dosage and know what to give to your patient I hope this help , this example also came from MissK on YouTube.
