I’ve known this skrunkly fella for 10 years now! (I don’t have many old videos of him)

Toup was just a stray kitty who showed up in my yard one day in 2016. I started feeding him on my porch, but he wouldn’t come near me for quite some time. After some long nights of hanging outside & being patient, I started earning his trust.

Eventually he would let me pet him. So I slowly began feeding him inside, but allowed him to go back out so he wasn’t stressed. Then Toup started hanging out inside for longer periods of time.

After he was spending more time inside than outside, my family helped me build a catio to let him & the other kitties enjoy the outdoors safely. He still liked to go out into the yard for some strolls with me tho.

Now, we live in a totally different house. He was completely indoors for a while, until we were able to get a catio built here.

It’s so crazy to think of all the things he’s been thru with me & helped me accomplish. I am so thankful this screechy, skrunkly dude ended up in my life. I truly couldn’t imagine it without him🤍

... Read moreHaving lived with Toup for a decade, I've learned so much about patience and the unique personalities of stray cats. One key insight is that earning a cat's trust requires consistent, gentle attention without rushing the process. Toup's early reluctance to approach taught me to respect his boundaries while providing a safe and steady presence. Building a catio (an enclosed outdoor space for cats) was a game-changer for both Toup and my household. It allowed him to enjoy the fresh air and natural environment safely without the dangers of free roaming. I recommend any cat owner consider this setup. It enhances a cat's quality of life and minimizes risks. It's also important to balance indoor and outdoor time based on the cat's personality and comfort level. Toup started venturing into the yard with me for supervised strolls, which helped deepen our bond. Creating these moments of shared exploration added joy for both of us. Reflecting on Toup's journey from a scared stray to a confident indoor/outdoor explorer reminds me that each cat's story is unique. Their behaviors and needs evolve over time, and as caretakers, adapting with love and patience is essential. I truly feel grateful for the companionship and life lessons that Toup has brought me. His loud screeches, quirky habits, and unwavering presence enrich my everyday life more than I could have imagined when he first appeared in my yard in 2016.
