Here are 3 books I’m reading right now to better myself 💖💖
1. “Boundary Boss” by Terri Cole - I have always really struggled with setting emotional boundaries, especially with my close friends and family, so this book has really helped me learn to set some of those and not feel guilty for it! It has seriously changed my life so far. It also gives you exercises to do to practice it!
2. “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz - this books is an incredible perspective on living your life in a peaceful, authentic way. It’s also pretty short, so it’s an easier read, especially if you have ADHD. I definitely wouldn’t reccomend reading it all in one sitting though, because the concepts can be pretty deep and may need some time to marinate before moving on to the next.
3. “The Things You Can Only See When You Slow Down” by Haemin Sunim- This book has been very helpful for me when it comes to slowing down and practicing gratitude. I’m such a “go go go” rushy kind of person, and I’ve been really working to change that. The book is set up in a way where it’s a bunch of little snippets of teachings/quotes from a variety of people, so you could just read one a day if you wanted (that’s what I do). Love it so far!!
... Read moreAs someone who's always striving for personal growth, diving into a good book feels like having a wise friend by my side. These past few months, I've found such incredible wisdom and practical tools in my current reads, and I really wanted to share a deeper look into how they've impacted me, beyond just a quick review.
Let's talk about "Boundary Boss" by Terri Cole first. The original post mentioned struggling with emotional boundaries, and honestly, who doesn't? For me, the toughest part has always been feeling guilty when I try to say no or prioritize my own needs, especially with family and close friends. This book isn't just about setting boundaries; it's about learning to "Talk True, Be Seen, and (Finally) Live Free," as the subtitle perfectly puts it. I've been actively doing the exercises it suggests – almost like a personal workbook – and what I've learned is that boundaries aren't about pushing people away, but about respecting myself enough to show up authentically. It's a journey, and some days are harder than others, but even small steps, like setting a clear expectation for my time, have made a huge difference in reducing my stress.
Then there's "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz. This book, while short, packs such a profound punch. I've been trying to integrate "Be Impeccable with Your Word" into my daily life, which means being mindful of what I say, not just to others, but also to myself. It's amazing how much clearer and calmer my internal dialogue has become. And the agreement "Don't Take Anything Personally"? That one has been a game-changer for navigating tricky conversations without getting caught up in others' emotions. It truly offers a peaceful, authentic way to live, helping me step back and observe rather than react.
Finally, "The Things You Can Only See When You Slow Down" by Haemin Sunim has been my anchor. I confess, I'm typically a "go-go-go" kind of person, always rushing and feeling like there's not enough time. This book's gentle teachings are helping me truly understand "How to Be Calm and Mindful in a Fast-Paced World." I love that it's structured in snippets; I often read just one or two a day, sometimes with my morning coffee, letting the wisdom settle in. It reminds me to pause, notice the small joys, and practice gratitude in the everyday. It's like a soft whisper encouraging me to embrace a more gentle, or dare I say, 'living softly' approach to life.
For anyone looking to make their self-growth journey more impactful, I've found that actively engaging with these books makes all the difference. I highlight, jot down notes in a journal, and sometimes even discuss key concepts with a friend. Creating a cozy, aesthetic space for reading, perhaps with a warm drink, also enhances the experience. These aren't just books to read; they're invitations to transform, one mindful page at a time. I hope these insights encourage you to pick them up and discover their magic too!
