Filter vs No filter

We all know how easy it is to hide behind a Snapchat filter. Trust me, I do it too. Honestly, I hardly ever take selfies anymore—and there's a reason for that.

It all started when my face exploded with acne. And I mean exploded. I've tried everything: medications, all-natural remedies, doing absolutely nothing, and even the most expensive treatments. Nothing worked the way I hoped. Now, I have acne scars and don’t wear makeup anymore because I haven’t found anything that truly covers it all.

Dreaming of flawless, smooth, glowing skin has felt completely out of reach. But lately, I’ve started to embrace my skin more and more every day. These days, I actually prefer no filter. I've learned to accept my scars, my wrinkles, and everything that comes with them.

Here’s a little glimpse of that journey—Filter vs. No Filter. And yes, that’s me nervously posing with a bird I was terrified to touch 😂

... Read moreIt’s incredible how much a simple filter can change our perception of ourselves, isn't it? I remember countless times scrolling through feeds, seeing seemingly flawless complexions, and then looking at my own skin, feeling a pang of inadequacy. Filters, like the popular 'love has no age' Snapchat filter, can be fun to play with, offering a glimpse of a different reality or a perfected version of ourselves. But for many of us, they become a crutch, a way to hide features we've been taught to see as 'flaws.' This journey of 'filter vs. no filter' is deeply personal, and it’s one I’m still navigating. For a long time, my imperfections, especially the acne scars that covered my natural skin, felt like a secret I had to keep hidden. I’d spend hours trying to find the perfect angle, the perfect lighting, or, failing that, the perfect filter to smooth everything out. It felt like a constant performance, and honestly, it was exhausting. My confidence was tied to a digital facade. Over time, I started realizing the toll this was taking on my mental well-being. Looking at my unfiltered self, with all its 'imperfections' – the scars, the occasional breakout – felt jarring compared to the persona I presented online. That’s when I decided I needed a change. It wasn't about achieving 'perfect' skin; it was about accepting the skin I'm in. So, how do we move from relying on filters to truly embracing our natural selves? It's a process, not an overnight switch. Here are a few things that have helped me, and maybe they can help you too: Shift Your Focus to Skin Health, Not Perfection: Instead of obsessing over erasing every single scar or pore, I started focusing on making my natural skin feel healthy and strong. This meant finding a skincare routine that worked for me – gentle cleansers, hydrating serums, and definitely SPF. For acne scars, I explored ingredients like Vitamin C and retinoids (under professional guidance, of course!) which have really helped with texture over time. It’s about caring for your skin, not punishing it for not being 'flawless.' Limit Filtered Content & Follow Real Accounts: Unfollowing accounts that constantly post heavily filtered or unrealistic images helped immensely. Instead, I sought out creators who share their authentic selves, showing their beautiful, natural skin with all its unique characteristics. Seeing others confidently embrace their 'no filter' look was incredibly empowering. Practice Mindful Mirror Work: This might sound simple, but it’s powerful. Instead of immediately scrutinizing flaws, try looking at your reflection with kindness. Acknowledge your natural features, your smile, the sparkle in your eyes. Remind yourself that these 'imperfections' are part of your story, making you uniquely you. I used to hate seeing my 'natural skin with some imperfections' in the mirror, but now I see a resilient person. Find Confidence in Other Areas: Our appearance is just one aspect of who we are. Focusing on hobbies, skills, relationships, or personal growth can build confidence that isn't dependent on how we look on camera. When you feel good about who you are and what you do, the need to rely on filters diminishes. Embracing the 'no filter' philosophy isn't about being perfectly confident all the time. It’s about choosing authenticity, choosing self-love, and understanding that real beauty is diverse, textured, and wonderfully unfiltered. It's a continuous journey, but one that leads to a much more peaceful and genuine relationship with yourself.

why do people hate others who use filters? it's about 50 50 for me but there's always a "friends" who is like "why do you use filters if you died no one would recognize you because they don't know what you really look like" um....ok not mention only family verifies death
