Hey Book Besties
Here is a Red, White, and Blue stack for 🎆 Memorial Day 🎆
As someone who’s family has had service members for multiple generations in this country (all the way back to the American Revolution), it’s this days that mean a lot to me.
Thank you to those who have served, but unfortunately did not make it home. Things are tough in the country right now (that’s honestly an understatement), and things that you fought for are either being changed or left behind—and not for the better 98% of the time. You’re probably rolling in your graves or cussing us out from wherever you may be. But we know your sacrifice. We remember your sacrifice.
“For love of country they accepted death, and thus resolved all doubts, and made immortal their patriotism
and their virtue.” — James A. Garfield
And to the unofficial part of things, let summer begin. Kinda sucks that many of us had to deal with chill and rain this weekend, but I’m sure we made the best of it.

Memorial Day always holds a special place in my heart, especially with my family’s long history of military service stretching back to the American Revolution. It’s a day that reminds me not only to honor those who served but also to reflect on the complex emotions surrounding their sacrifices in today’s challenging times. This year, as I curated my Red, White, and Blue book stack, I included titles like "Blood of Hercules" by Jasmine Mas, "Blossom in Winter" by Melanie Martins, and "Archer’s Voice" by Mia Sheridan, each offering powerful stories that resonate with themes of strength, resilience, and love—values that echo the spirit of Memorial Day. While things may feel uncertain and disheartening in the country right now, this day encourages us to pause and remember the brave individuals who gave everything for our freedoms. I often think about how they might view today's world, with its many struggles and changes. It’s a sobering thought but one that deepens my appreciation for their sacrifices and motivates me to uphold the values they fought for. On a lighter note, Memorial Day weekend also unofficially kicks off summer, a season of renewal and hope. Despite the rainy and chilly weather many of us faced recently, I found solace and joy in settling into these deeply engaging books. Curling up with a good read is a personal tradition of mine that helps me unwind and reconnect with both myself and the world. For fellow book lovers and those looking to honor Memorial Day in a meaningful way, I highly recommend creating your own themed book stack. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate history, patriotism, and personal growth all at once. Whether through fiction that inspires or nonfiction that educates, books have a unique power to bring past sacrifices into our present consciousness. As summer unfolds, let’s keep the memories alive by sharing stories and reflections with our communities. Libraries and bookstores often have Memorial Day selections—consider supporting them and exploring new voices that add richness to this important day. Thank you to everyone who has served and to those who continue to protect our freedoms. Your legacy endures not only through history but also in the hearts and minds of readers everywhere.
