... Read moreIn addition to what’s shared, it’s fascinating to realize that Mexico’s abolition of slavery in 1829 under President Vicente Guerrero, himself of Afro-Indigenous descent, marked a significant milestone in the fight for freedom in the Americas. This act gave enslaved people fleeing the United States a legal refuge, especially across the Texas-Mexico border. Many escaped on foot or horseback, often guided by Indigenous and Tejano allies, using rivers and natural routes to evade slave patrols. What struck me personally while learning about this history is how the Rio Grande was not just a physical border but a symbol of liberty for countless people. The presence of Black Seminoles who settled in northern Mexico and established communities like Nacimiento de Guajila shows a unique blend of African, Indigenous, and Mexican heritages and resistance against oppression. Their descendants continue to preserve this legacy today. Understanding this aspect of history shifts the typical narrative that often confines Black history solely within the United States. It expands the story into Mexican history and highlights the broader struggles for emancipation beyond U.S. borders. This historical connection also sheds light on tensions that fueled conflicts such as the Texas Revolution, where Mexico’s abolitionist stance clashed with slave-holding interests. For anyone interested in the history of freedom movements, this tale underscores how geography, politics, and cross-cultural alliances shaped the quest for liberation. It encourages looking beyond traditional history books and appreciating the complex, transnational dimensions of Black history and Mexican history during the 19th century.

I agree with the other person in here. You guys talk about how you freed slaves. First, but some of you who own slaves did the most hideous things to black people. They were so hegness, I'm sure you still want to hide them. Nonetheless, when did you guys change and start to hate black people? As much as you do, the Latina cop who called us every kind of in word and lost her job, then a white woman came on and says she hate y'all, just as much as she hate us. So these little ranch of idy, bitty, truths here, and there don't outweigh the ugliness that you demonstrate daily
