Road games! Blizzard fun…scary fun.

Okay, fellow road warriors, let's talk about winter driving. We've all been there – maybe a scenic drive turns into a white-knuckle experience, or a sudden blizzard decides to crash your road trip plans. It can be stressful, but what if I told you it could also be…fun? My family recently found ourselves in one of those ‘scary fun’ blizzard situations, and instead of just gritting our teeth, we invented (or rediscovered!) some amazing FUN ROAD GAMES that truly saved our sanity and even made the journey memorable. It's all about turning those challenges into unexpected adventures! First up, some of the classics we played, inspired by our very own BLIZZARD conditions. There’s the hilariously nerve-wracking 'WHERE'S THE ROAD?' game. The rules are simple: everyone points out where they think the actual road is hidden under all that snow, especially when the lines disappear! Variations like 'WHERE'S THE DITCH?' and 'IS THIS MY LANE?' naturally followed when visibility really dropped. It sounds a bit crazy, but it keeps everyone incredibly engaged and focused, even when the scenery is just a blur of white. It’s definitely a team effort to keep an eye out for potential hazards. Then there's our favorite team game, 'BUILD A PARKING LOT.' This one was a riot! The idea is that the first person to arrive at a destination (say, a rest stop or a gas station with a cleared area) chooses to park wherever they want. Then, everyone else has to fill in the spaces *next to them*, trying to create a perfectly organized (or hilariously messy) 'parking lot' with minimal effort. Later on, when the snow clears or you're walking away, you see if you actually parked in the designated PARKING SPACES or if you've created a snow-day masterpiece of parking anarchy. It’s much harder than it sounds when you factor in snowdrifts and limited visibility! Beyond these, we also brought some other games into the mix. 'Winter I Spy' is a great one, focusing on things you can actually spot in a snowy landscape – like 'I spy with my little eye something… white and fluffy' (which is almost everything, making it even funnier!). Or try 'Snowdrift Storytelling,' where each person adds a sentence to a collective story, starting with a winter-themed prompt. It really gets the imagination going. For the little ones (and sometimes the adults too!), a 'Winter Car Bingo' with squares like 'spot a snowplow,' 'see a deer track,' 'find an icicle,' or 'hear a winter song' can be super engaging. These fun road games aren't just about passing the time; they're genuinely fantastic for keeping spirits high and minds alert during challenging drives. And trust me, when you're battling a blizzard, staying alert is key for driving safety. So next time winter throws a curveball, don't just endure it – make it an adventure!
